No they are not comprehensive bills, but they do amnesty millions.

    And of course, no E-Verify.

If they think they can get an amnesty bill through Congress without that sort of compromise, they won't do it.

I think the compromise is there.

Both sides have to feel the pressure of not compromising.

It depends if enough people in the middle want a solution.

Yes, if the US wants to claim global leadership, and doesn't want to be left behind by China's BRI....

    In any case:

U.S. working with IMF to provide $650 billion in currency aid to countries hit by pandemic (cnbc.com)

..mentioning a shouting match between congressman Kennedy (R) , and Janet Yellen, concerning US debt increased by this international aid.

Meanwhile Warren Mosler, one of the founders of MMT, has characterized the mainstream central bank money-lending orthodoxy, promoted by both Yellen and the IMF in the linked article, as "madness". And a regular economics commentator in Australia - at long last - agrees:

The US is a hollow power. We can only claim the mantle of "global power" until someone else very gently pushes us, and we fall down. And if you are going to push your MMT nonsense in this thread, why not push it for the countries you claim you want to help?

I am. The country that uses the productive power of modern AI and IT enhanced manufacturing in conjunction with an above poverty job guarantee as outlined in MMT will succeed; and China obviously has a head start, given China's implementation of intelligent public sector management of private sector "invisible hand", (blind) free markets. I'm testing various communication channels with China, I'll let you know of any developments.

Meanwhile the OP's title is : "Biden gives his first press conference since taking office".

Wow, a promising topic for a meaningful thread....not...though an examination of the disputes about funding Biden's massive spending proposals is extremely pertinent.
