Dr King was a christian, he knew from the Christ he loved that speaking for what is right mean knowing persecutions. And despite of that, did he became a hater ? Yes, and no drama would have occured in history with some if. He understood the evil of his times and he fought against this, and he stood for what was fair, considering people according to their acts. And I doubt that he wasn't full aware that standing against evil mean possibly being striked by evil.
Everyone who want to stand for a fair cause must be ready to get his name slandered and being assaulted.
King was a devouted christian, he knew the life of Jesus Christ.
His death is still a drama, even if his memory and his spirit will shine for the incoming centuries, which is a kind of immortality in a way. But facing persecutions when standing for what's fair can't be avoided.
