Romney probably paid a whole lot more total taxes than you, while not using any more government services.

My word is good enough and I also take your words as honesty too. I'm just pointing out that not many can claim they don't know what percentage of their income or worth is being paid towards tax :)

Nope I cant, I can just give you my word I ABSOLUTELY know what percentage of my money is being levied from my income.. I'm just having a difficult time understanding why you wouldn't when I don't think anyone from a 1040ez on up to a businessman with billions and team of tax specialist DOESNT know what they are paying out, how does that even happen?

I have no desire to dig out my tax forms right now.... cause even if I did, you would not believe me, so what is the point

just like you can't prove it to me, I can't prove it to you

I know mine right off the top of my head EASY! No going thru the files NADDA, I simply put the little two digit number to memory LOL..

And I'm not going to divulge my income or tax burdens, I'm giving you honest fact that I can/could tell you the percentage of tax I pay pretty much every year for the last ten anyway ;)

I happen to bounce over to youtube yesterday and saw the "live" hearing notice so I flipped to it, saw that it was about reparations so i'm like this should be interesting, turns out the first speaker I hear is Burgess Owens. My first thought was "holy crap!, I don't think they exptected to hear "this" opinion, he was pretty blunt, pulled no punches, and even used the term bootstraps. I swear if he had been a white dude saying the exact same words you would hear the crowd shouting him down, the gavel banging, "order, order" it would have been a big azz mess.

I did stick around and listen for about 30-40 minutes but I hate to admit it, it was a jumbled mess, and I like Glover but he rambled on senselessly, interrupted people more than once, but no way in hell a white congressman was going to interrupt his rambling.

I turned if off due to a combination of hunger and boredom, maybe the rest of the hearings were jam packed with useful info but the half hour-ish that I invested in it was a big waste.

Much of what the wealthy get in income is from long term capital gains, which are irrelevant to income tax rates.

yet I got a tax cut and i'm paying less than the rich, tax cuts that my previous democratic senator voted down, i'm pretty confident that i'm not the only one that went through the same thought process last november. We voted him out, enjoy your retirement bill nelson.

I actually disagree there, I get a decent amount of capital gains every year through dividends and some property, 15% seems fair.

With that said, I would support a progressive capital gains tax, 15% up to say 250K, 20% to a million 25% over 5 million, etc.. I'd be fine with that, seems fair enough. Same goes for distributions from business, which bypasses payroll tax, should have some kind of limit before it gets surcharged.

I would support the first say 25k of investment income be tax free, then anything above that taxed like regular income

I don't necessarily agree with you, but I do respect your consistency on this.

If its so easy to get long-term capital gains, why doesn't everyone do it?
