Seriously. Wal-Mart isn't the only with low paying employees, but he prefers to target one place much like the gays against Chic Fillet.
He just wants to implement the good ol' Hegelian Rhetoric...........
Enjoy him while you can, I just lost my appetite for hunting trolls and whiners.

walmart bashing has been all but abandoned by the left on PF.com since it was shown that the current CEO, started stocking by shelves. Considering I don't know of any walmarts that actually pay min wage.... the focus of the left's ire has now become McDonalds, who does pay min wage.

but I've posted proof a family of 4 can live on 14k a year..... a 10$/hour walmart cashier can surive. The theory is still the same.... I don't care if you make 10$/hour, or 10000/hour..... if you don't budget properly, you end up broke....

I was actually referring to wal-mart employees and their reliance on welfare to make ends meet. That above provides no substance denying that or even addressing that, just an unsubstantiated generalization of the spending habits of the working poor.

Having worked at wal-mart, and spoken with its employees I find that, no very few adults over the age of 25 could make it sans welfare.

Your example involved a family that had a paid-off house, so they had no rent/mortgage payments.

Yes, it's possible to get by on far less money when you don't have to pay for shelter. No, that's not a good general example.

who made good choices... while he was working, instead of buying luxuries, they paid off their cars and instead of buying a nice house, thye bought a fixer upper and renovated, all within their budget.

so now double what they made, and you have the average earner at Walmart.

if they can't live off of 10$ hour, it's because they are making poor economic choices somewhere compared to their income.

I have to admit... even I can't budget as well as the family I linked to.... but it's not as important that I follow a strict, $400 monthly grocery budget as they do....

but I can also afford to go to movies, splurge on snack foods and buy alcohol if I choose.

Their house cost $28,000, which is ridiculously low, even for a fixer-upper. Here in Minnesota, for example, there is exactly ONE house available for $30,000 or less in the Twin Cities metro area. And it's a small house in lousy shape in a bad neighborhood.
    http://www.edinarealty.com/homes-for-sale/MN/Minneapolis/55412/3635-Oliver-Avenue-N-121714038

There are only 280 such properties in the entire state, most of them way out in rural areas far from actual jobs (and thus not an option for working adults), and most of them in need of significant repair.

Suggesting that poor people just need to save up money and buy a $28,000 house is not realistic advice.

    @ JB

    A. 10 dollars an hour is what I want min wage to be raised to. I agree that if you can't live off of $10 hour your probably not making the best choices. If min wage were $10 I wouldn't be agrueing for a min wage of 10 dollars an hour.

    B. "They took advantage of Nevada's declining housing market to score a cheap foreclosure."
not everyone lives in a place where cheap foreclosures are available.
(your example doesn't apply broadly enough to be useful)

    C. It assumes 2 parental units- Some people die and can't always be there to raise their kids.
(your example doesn't apply broadly enough to be useful)

C2. It assumes that one of the 2 parental units is willing to give up his/her carreer to stay at home raising kids and has the skill/ technology to manufacture their own clothing, bake and freeze their own food etc-
(your example doesn't apply broadly enough to be useful)

    D. Not every one can do military, blind people, sick people, all are usually shot down for military.
(your example doesn't apply broadly enough to be useful)
D2. That means that not everyone is going to have access to health insurance
(your example doesn't apply broadly enough to be useful)
D2I. Woe be to the parents of cancer laden children
(your example doesn't apply broadly enough to be useful)
    E. Not every one has access to a fresh food co-op.
(your example doesn't apply broadly enough to be useful)

In summation that one family, in one specific set of circumstances does not an argument make. Get real.

How does this in any way shape or form show a wal-mart employee making ends meet on minimum wage without wel-fare? thats all I want really, get these schlubs off of wel-fare.

McDonalds and Walmart can go to Mexico if they like. That has little to do with the business they have here.

As for companies that manufacture stuff. Most have left the building a long time ago.

Companies that do manufacture stuff here pay more than the minimum and so will not be affected by a min wage increase.

Raising the minimum wage benefits our economy and the smart ones on both sides of the Isle realize this.

Even the ones that are whining about the increase realize this but they see an opportunity to make score some political points with the raging masses who will buy into almost any argument, regardless of how silly.

Raising the minimum wage benefits exacerbates inflation and anyone with an IQ above single digits knows this.

The minimum wage is the basis for all wages. So that rhetoric is false.

I'm not really sure how you move a fast food restaurant or a car wash to Columbia, Mexico, or wherever, and I'm not sure what you do when you get there and find the people can't afford your spray wash or curly fries. Some businesses are TRAPPED in America.

Smaller businesses, sure. Firms with more than 1,000 employees, not really.

Increasingly what we find from most larger businesses (especially Corporations) is that their less and less of their revenue originates from America.

How do you sell to Americans if you are Nordstrom's or Macy's and your stores are in Columbia? Same with McDonald's, Roto-Rooter, Union Pacific Railroad, Cost Cutters, Dominos Pizza, Home Depot, etc. You can expand elsewhere, and you can manufacture a lot of things elsewhere, but the face-to-face end users are still in America.

FDR was wrong about many things as is your estimate of $10.00 an hour.

Any wage is a living wage depending on how you live, as in what your lifestyle is and how responsible you are

Rest assured I have more economic knowledge come out my backside than the content of your response.

    - - - Updated - - -

An economy with inflation is a good one. That requires a bit more than single digits to understand but perhaps you will get there one day.

My goodness .. a claim with some kind of support (albeit minimal and vauge) to back it up. Better than most however, so one kudo's to you.

Why does the min wage as a floor necessarily affect folks making higher than min wage in a factory ?

Sam Walton is dead, the people living off his wealth didn't start out stocking aisles, they inherited their wealth, they have been filthy rich their entire lives....and you want to help them out by subsidizing their payroll......

Considering that the minimum wage is the basis for all wages, it has the potential to push up other wages higher than the minimum wage. Firms and establishments may increase the cost of goods and services (raw materials) to offset the cost wages. This leads to a decrease in supply for these goods and services. If prices increase, workers will eventually require another wage increase to compensate for the cost of living increase.

It's called Cost-Push Inflation... Or Wage Push Inflation. Whatever you prefer.

    Got debt?
    no mortgage?
    Credit cards?
Paid for all of your own insurance?
    Modest survival needs?
Established a system of barter and trade with your neighbors?
Gold and silver in case of collapse?
If you answered no to any of these questions, your passing more than knowledge.
