She would just red flag him to the cops as a potential terrorist

And they would take his dads guns away

They can be suspended when they become violent.

Yeah, that'll prepare them for success in the workforce.

If I were a teacher, I would just find some other offense to describe the student's behavior--it's rare that a teen is just being defiant, usually something else is going on as well. It's just another way that a liberal government is destroying the possibility of obtaining education in the public schools. They are coddling the bad kids, causing the good kids to suffer. I don't know about California, but Florida is having trouble attracting enough teachers. My bet is this makes it harder for California to attract teachers.

On a related sidenote, when I was teaching in the mid 1990s, one of the counselors at the high school I was working at found a journal article that looked into why people were fired from jobs. The top four reasons (and I don't remember the order) were poor attendance, tardiness to work, not following directions and not doing what your supervisor asked (aka willful defiance). All the schools in California are doing is guaranteeing that a generation of kids will not be able to hold down a job. If you can't learn to listen to and obey a teacher (who has your best interest at heart), how are you going to ever learn to listen to and follow directions from a boos (who has his best interest at heart, not yours). It's a guarantee that a student will be unemployable.

But they can be prevented from becoming violent with a little discipline before it gets to that point. That is what California ignores.

This is not going to have a positive outcome. It takes the control of the classroom away from the adults and gives it to the students. Not a good idea.

Then just chaos in the classrooms. Regardless, it ruins the education of the good kids in a classroom, when the bad kids are allowed to do what they want.

Good points. Maybe if they had a military-style boot camp on campus, it can work.

This seems like a burden for teachers. Folks who already have it pretty tough.

My guess is that teachers in California will just be more creative in their disciplinary referrals. No more willful disobedience, but they will figure out another offense. Regardless, it's a stupid policy that will hurt the majority of kids in a school--the good ones. The kids who repeatedly disrupt the educational environment and interfere with their classmate's being able to learn will be given free reign.

What's wrong with a job in a cubicle? Most IT jobs involve working in a cubicle.

Especially when you are encouraged to live off the work of others. A liberal trait.
