CA: Conservative student group denied official recognition, called ‘unsafe’ for minorities

should the school pay for it? no, but the school shouldn't be wasting funds on any of these groups. right, left, center or any combination thereof, each group should be funding its own events and reimbursing the school for any clean-up or use of resources. should the school allow these views to be voiced on campus? of course. any group that represents members of the student body should be allowed to voice their opinions or none should. exposure to differing opinions is the entire point of eduction. the alternative is just the sort of ethical and intellectual stagnation we see more and more.

we live in an age where all of the information in the world is at our fingertips, but we are increasingly insulating ourselves from anything with which we might disagree or find distasteful. as an example i give you our poor lil' carlos. so sure of the labels he has pasted on the opposition, but completely unaware of what the groups he opposes actually represent. it's far easier for him to exist within the realm of buzz-words and sound-bites, unwilling to sift through the mountains of noise for those little bits of truth that exist in even the most outrageous philosophies. he's certainly not alone nor is this sort of ethical laziness and intellectual dishonesty restricted to one side of the aisle or the other.

To be more specific, the OP's article quotes a statement from a "constituent" who complained that "sharing inspiring stories with legal immigrants" would "slight or undermine undocumented immigrants".

I think it's great to highlight the successes of legal immigration. This country was built on legal immigration.

How sad that we can't celebrate the people who follow the rules and do things the right way, because it might upset some snowflakes who are breaking the law and/or supporting those who are breaking the law.

If the illegals feel "marginalized" or "undermined" by legal immigrants, maybe they should take the steps to become legal themselves

I think this is some of the fallout of the "everybody gets a trophy" mentality. We can't recognize the achievements of one group/person, because we might hurt the feelings of the other groups/people who didn't do as well
