We get a lot of Cali refugee's here. Some of the stories are just amazing.

 

In university vernacular, "non-black" very likely means "hispanic". I seriously doubt it means "white" or "asian". just a gut feeling.

Every university has an admissions office. It reports to the president of the university. The president can simply tell the admissions office to practice racism and reduce the number of white students. It isn't exactly rocket science.

 

No two people have exactly the same grades, scores, and extra-curricular activities.

 

At this particular school, yes, some people are told they cannot attend that school because they are white regardless of their academic record. Diversity is more important than academics after all, right?

Under your definition, that is "racist" because it is a decision based on race.

You (and others) want to use an overbroad definition of racist so you can claim that AA is racist and I am racist and pretend everything is racist, and it's all the same and no different as the actual racist who discriminates because they don't like someone's race or color. Compare my example above of hiring a white actor instead of a black to play the part of a white character, versus a garage hiring a white mechanic instead of a black because employer hates blacks and thinks they are stupid and lazy.

You want to pretend those are both "racist" acts, equally bad.

I interview and hire people for my company all the time. Having a diverse population of employees or students does not require discrimination. We have plenty of women and minorities working for us and we have never once discussed ethnicity or gender during the hiring process.

Let's not forget that you are comparing your hiring experience to a university. Cal Poly SLO gets over 60,000 applicants a year. That's not anything like what you or I do when we interview and hire workers. Cal Poly SLO has taken steps to increase the applicant base to include a more diverse population. This enables them to accept the best candidates and increase ethnic diversity. The two things are not mutually exclusive.
