Was it wrong to use race to justify the voting rights act? No one should care.

If it was mostly another race and you are trying to increase diversity? Then no.

I'm not one of the asshles who quote his one passage from one of many speeches every single time something happens I don't like, but since you asked allow me to educate:

MLK wanted equality and an America where all races and creeds of people were not only labelled as equal but also treated as such. He also wanted accountability from others, including white people and I mentioned that in two other speeches of his back in post #184. He also wanted a country where integration wasn't done just by race but also by wealth and economic levels and realizing that poverty doesn't just go away because the economy itself is great. He also wanted to get the message across the violent protests or riots weren't necessary and the guiding principle behind non-violent, peaceful protests was encouraging love, according to him, while at the same time acknowledging that if the oppressed people's aren't shown and accepted by others in a peaceful way, then they'll do it all in a violent way. Even in his "Where Do We Go From Here" he wanted everyone to be "dissatisfied" with the state of America until its core political, social and economical problems were thoroughly addressed and promptly corrected.

In short, he wanted a lot and he said a lot of things over his adult life time, and to help with this here's a long list of quotes straight from the man himself.

The State of California is diligently working on purging the whatever Conservative or Right of Center Caucasians from the state proper. After that is accomplished, the State will declare independence from the USA, probably will name the new country as "Utopia Pacifica"

They can't read but they will teach children.

    What could go wrong there?

If they are actively trying to reduce the number of white students, not based on their merits, but rather the color of their skin, then YES the Hair are being discriminated against

No. I work with a black guy. My verbal SAT score was higher than his, but his math SAT score was MUCH higher than mine.

There are smart black people all over. I work with lots of them.

What I'm saying is that a college should not admit a black guy with a 3.0 high school GPA over a white guy with a 3.8 high school GPA just because "there are too many damn whites" at our school.

There is no shortage of this sort of racist claptrap from right-wing propaganda outlets eager to feed those who are eager to swallow it.

Should Americans who have been largely unwelcome in various venues continue to be discriminated against and marginalized as they had been when the folks now complaining about their inclusion voiced no opposition to their exclusion?

We stop at Alcorn State when we are in the area for Civil War reenactments or camping, and to eat at Mr. D's best fried chicken in the whole wide world in his Old Country Store -- last time he sang "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" to my wife, the man's always singing, super guy (people come thousands of miles for Mr. D's fried chicken). It's a very nice campus and truly historically black -- Medgar Evers and Alex Haley are graduates. There's a pretty good contingent of white kids attending, and as it is academically challenging and very well respected, that's what would be expected. I don't have a per cent of white students there, but it's a man's paradise with 65% women.

When the Alcorn State marching band comes to the MLK Parade, Battle of the Bands in Biloxi, it's a do not miss it. Goosebumps just thinking about it, absolutely incredible. MS Valley State and Jackson State are fantastic also, but I just like Alcorn the best.

We met Dr. Alphonso Sanders, Chair of Fine Arts, MS Valley State just by chance, just in passing for a minute. Wow. Impressed and found out more. He can teach and he can do -- plays blues joints all over. There's a lot of geniuses in Mississippi.

If anybody says it's nothing but bottom land down there and there ain't no life down there, they are absolutely fos.

You mean the only candidates. Not the best. Choosing the best by grades, etc is how liberals got to this "we need more diversity" in the first place.

And again, how do you think he would feel knowing that the people he gave his life for weren't adhering to his dreams after he was able to give them a chance?

Admit more students of color, other underrepresented groups

There are two such groups: Under-represented applicants who may not meet Cal Poly’s rigid academic standards for admission, and applicants from under-represented groups who do meet standards but are not inclined to seek admission to Cal Poly.

    ▪ Admit under-represented applicants with the potential to succeed based on CSU (not tougher Cal Poly) admission standards.

Just for the sake of argument how many white guys with a 3.0 GPA have gotten into a college over a black guy with a 3.8?
