Let me see if I have this right: If someone approaches our border and expresses anti-U.S. opinions and hostility to our country and its leader, we should, definitely, let them in, right?

If this Canadian was acting like the woman that was thrown off the plane for stirring up crap, then I can understand the decision to turn him away. I would have to hear both sides of the story.

According to the article, they stated they were going to DC for the march, not because they were anti-Trump. They were asked, after that, specifially if they were anti-Trump.

 

According to the anti-trump Canadian. Now, how hard did CNN try and track down the other side of the story? How many others were turned away? Surely thousands came down... Which is more likely, one would be anti-Trump poster was harrassed and denied access, or one would be anti-Trump protester was a jackass who set off a warning bell?

As one who crosses the U.S. Canadian border twice a month I can share my insight. From my reading of the article there is a difference between vacationing in America and visiting America for political reasons. Also it sounds like the Canadian broke an unwritten rule of crossing an international boundary, that being do not give more info than required. If the Canadian decided to try to debate politics with the border guard then this may have given the guard the impression that the visit was political as opposed to tourism. The border guards are sticklers about the context of a visit and you need to realize that a foreign national has no right to enter the country.

My personal thoughts are who cares if a Canadian wants to attend a political event in America, but apparently it is either not allowed, or there is a special permit required, or the Canadian acted entitled and got a bit too spirited in answering the guards questions.

My tips for those who want to enter the USA or Canada, do your homework and learn what you are allowed to bring, declare items such as food, tobacco, alcohol, and weapons, answer questions in the fewest words possible, do not be a comedian as border guards have no sense of humor while in the clock, and do not have an addittude as it will lead to no good. Also define the reason for your visit and research what if any applications or visas are required previous to attempting to cross an international boundary.

Free Speech as well as Constitutional Rights represent American rights
and not to be confused with Human Rights as may be applicable to fereigners
Canadians have no First Amendment right while they reside in La Canada and
just wanna come to America to "free speech".

I don't know. You might be right; you're probably right...? It's hard to say for sure when one side refuses to comment, and I generally don't trust that sort of behavior.
