I can see what you mean; thanks for explaining in detail. I guess it's one of those things that probably seems political to the outside, but to those attending the school makes sense.

I have always been Catholic myself and went to a Catholic school program. Things like homosexuality, birth control, etc were not mentioned and most of the students would have disagreed with the teachings anyway. But I guess the smaller number who did agree with those ideas are the ones enrolling in these types of universities.

 

There is a choice. You don't have to agree with them. If you don't, and live a lifestyle other than what they teach, then you are not a good Catholic and according to the doctrine, jeopardize your immortal soul. Knowing that, these folks must believe they are doing wrong and feel guilty, or what Catholic Christians believe would not be an issue for them.

 

Are they afraid the students are too weak and feebleminded to form their own opinion, that they would accept anything said by hook, line, and sinker?

Academic freedom is an integral part of the definition of university.

 

I don't think they are taught how to think for themselves today. Everything I've read seems like indoctrination.

 

When I was in high school (over a decade ago) I had a teacher tell us that it was pointless to not support gay marriage.

 

Too bad Jesus hates f**s or else Jesus would of course have come down w/in the last 2000 years (that's a long time!) to simply say "look, we got it wrong, I apologize for the Bible teaching so much hatred for gays, please forgive me for not speaking up sooner, we now let gays into heaven."
I of course would have said that if I was in Jesus' shoes - that's because I'm more loving than Jesus is, of course.

I'd forgive him, yes, because unlike Jesus, I believe in 2nd chances (you die a non-Christian you don't get a second chance - you go to burn in "hell"!)

Yes, Islam and Christians both give their impressionable young children texts that teach utter HATRED towards innocent people (gays, women, non-believers, etc.) The sheer hatred of their "prophets" knows no bounds. Gays are hurting NOBODY - heck, gays in general are even better for the environment, when you really think about it.

 

Your teacher is smarter and more loving than Jesus then, because Jesus in the Bible defined marriage as between a man and a woman. That zombie didn't understand that marriage can be between woman/woman, man/man, and man/woman. He was not too bright.

 

That's because the Pope is too much of an intellectual coward to simply say "look, god got it wrong, he SHOULD allow gays into heaven, despite what the Bible says". But Francis is too hateful, to unloving, too selfish to say that, of course.

 

I think it's more important to respect folks for who they are. It's their choice or nature. I don't have to agree. I do need to be charitable. It isn't Christian to hate, hurt or harm them in any manner. That is another way to jeopardize your soul. Many folks forget that. Why they don't impress that upon students, I don't know.

 

If people disagree with the Pope, they are free to leave the Catholic Church. If people don't believe in the Bible, no one can force them to adhere to its teachings. But to suggest they change their views just to agree with you seems a bit over the top.

 

Their views are barbaric, so I'd expect them to change their views. Kill gays...gays can't get into heaven.....both of those are in the Bible, and Christians/Pope/Jesus seem too intellectually cowardly to change those barbaric texts. They are wrong - gays should be treated as equals....it's time to leave Pope/Jesus.

 

Haha, well your opinion shows a total disregard for history. This is not a small matter. The bible says it is an abomination. But you also have a point. What makes the Pope unique compared to other Christian leaders [by Catholic beliefs] is that the Pope can change God's law, according to Mathew 18 and 19 - And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

The Catholics believe that Peter was the first Pope, with the power of the Papacy passed down from Pope to Pope. So Francis could declare that homosexuality is no longer a sin.

Funny. that had never occurred to me. But it is rare for a Pope to make such a fundamental declaration.

THAT said, it is just another sin. So while not properly celebrated, there is no reason to view homosexual "sin" to be worse than other sins. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, and all of that.

 

I think you are confused. I started laughing when I read this. That's not nice. It's a reaction to this simplistic view and the realization of how misunderstood God is today.

 

Advocate changing the Bible (regarding gays) or the Pope is an unloving intellectual coward.

Can you join me in condemning Christians/Pope/Jesus for the Bible, to this very day(!), saying to kill gays and that Jesus and pals won't even let gays (not even ethical ones) into heaven? If not, then search your heart for more love, and you'll be willing to condemn their hatred for innocent people (gays.)

 

Yes, to a Christian who believes the hatred of gays in the Bible, gays are seen as warped individuals. Too bad Christianity is not as loving as it could be. I blame Jesus.

There are thousands and thousands of claimed gods - this particular one is immoral, strangely hidden, violent (just read the Bible), and non-existent.

 

You can't condemn God for saying that gays can't get into heaven, can you?
