The fact that we have specific places in this country were the murder rate approaches the 70's per 100k. Yet you never hear about any ideas or plans for getting to the root of that violence.

As far as the media and the government is concerned, it's a non issue.

No because your media seems too focussed on singular events that make carrying a gun look good - so much so one suspects a kickback each time they publish a story

You're reaching. We are literally discussing building a wall to keep these people out of our country. They have to be shipped into yours by boat.

Hmmm - have you had a GOOD look at our North West coast - not exactly overpopulated, And you can actually cross from Papua to Cape York by canoe - and many do on a nearly daily basis

Like it or not ownership of guns saves lives, and despite skyrocketing gun sales and CCW licenses, the crime rate continues to plummet in the US.

Felons here fear CCW's more than they do police.

    Cost versus benefit

They cost more lives than they save and that is unequivocal

Considering mass shooting rarely if EVER occur in areas where people are carrying, you have an apology on your hands for saying something completely ignorant and stupid. CCW prevent simple robberies and home invasions, MOST go unreported without incident. Perp sees gun...perp runs...ends of story. The unlucky ones get shot and killed like Trayvon.

When someone goes and shoots up a gun show, gun range or police station, give us a call=) Care to guess why that doesn't occur?

Actually the research is pretty strong on this one - have an unloaded firearm in the house and you are MORE at risk of death

Except that's not at all what your link says.

What it says is the people who are depressed, have a history of violence, AND have a history of alcoholism/drug usage that have a gun are at higher risk of suicide.

A gun owner who follows simple rules and doesn't have the above issues is perfectly safe. Handle a dangerous item in an irresponsible way, regardless of what that item is, and yes, you're going to get hurt.

Really? Read the Chicago papers for this AM. A CCW holder terminated an armed robber and permanently rehabilitated him.
