I once handled a Walther PPK but never fired one and never needed to use a firearm to defend myself my entire life.
So this is about you? You want to pass laws based on what has happened to you? Hundreds of thousands if not millions of Americans have needed a firearm to defend themselves because criminals don't follow laws. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of EU citizens have needed firearms or weapons of some sort to defend themselves from evil yet you want to base this on what has happened to you. That is a very narrow view of what we are discussing. Also it is a selfish opinion.
Its typical of people who know nothing about guns. "I don't have one, and they make me nervous, and I'm sure I would just hurt myself, therefore no one else should have them either". Pure projection.
You are misinformed about the European Union. We do not need civilians to be armed in order to feel safe. There is no gun culture here (with the exception of Finland).
Spain has one of the lowest crime rates in the E.U., but they're far from "peaceful": https://www.osac.gov/pages/ContentReportDetails.aspx?cid=15065 Our buddy ignores the fact that his Nanny State views him as a subject; to be controlled and allocated for. He's welcome to it, but he's in no position to criticize me, or you, or us. The E.U. doesn't have anything like the demographics of the U.S., but that is rapidly changing, as they are over run by refugees. We'll see what happens to their crime rates, and their ability to defend themselves.
And yet the terrorists responsible for the Charlie Hebdo murders managed to procure machine guns, when the laws of the nation of France present no opportunity this to be done by anyone. If machine guns can be procured in a nation like France, why should anyone present on the forums believe for even one moment that any number of firearms cannot be procured just as easily by the average criminal? What is the nation of France doing about the black market trade of firearms by those who cannot legally possess them?
