As a former intelligence analyst myself I can tell you that nobody, not even the President can issue such an order. The NSA, like all the intelligence agencies must comply with the laws of the United States. Americans have a 4th Amendment right to privacy. That means no spying on Americans. They must abide by the rules and regulations set up to protect the 4th Amendment rights of Americans. That would be United States Signals Intelligence Directives (USSID-18.). Incidental recordings of American citizens must be destroyed immediately, all records, tapes, transcripts and computer files destroyed and deleted.

Now the Patriot Act changed some of the rules, and the identity of Americans are masked when some of these conversations are captured. They are only supposed to be kept if it's a national security matter or a criminal matter. The other part of the #SPYGATE scandal is in the OP. Obama gave the authority for these incidental contacts to be widely distributed and the people were unmasked illegally.

Won't the Mueller report be fun if Democrats get their wish and they show who was spied on, who unmasked who and why?

Wait until the IG or the DOJ start going through top level cell phones, emails text messages. Not just appointees but top level GS people. The directors can't do this on their own. Some field agents had to be involved.

I grew up in a conservative Christian household. Of course, I was the smart kid who kept questioning Christianity. As early as 5 years old, I was openly asking, why would anyone want to go to church?

Besides the usual "false witnessing" Christians like to commit, concerning non-Christians, and especially nonbelievers, a common refrain I would hear was, "Those who don't stand for something will fall for anything." Of course they seemed to be glossing over the fact that I was early standing firm in my unacceptance of what I, even as a child, saw as a whole lot of gobblygook.

In all my life, never have I fallen for a scam. Never have I become so attached to leader, that I wore clothing, broadcasting that fact. Clearly I am not the one falling williy nilly, for anything. When we look around at the conspiracy theory world, is it not all Conservative Christians. Marketing people love them, as they are so easily marketed to. Con artist women, pick them out of a crowd.

You should read up on the origins of the Heritage Foundation and FOX News. Central to their core mission was, and always has been, to spread false information, especially false information about Democrats.

This actually is a rather farfetched notion. No doubt Barr said it to an audience of one. Trump has been saying the very same thing for months.

It is a rather incredulous far right conspiracy that makes no sense.

Who conducted the spying? Well, according to Barr and Trump, the Trump administration, meaning the DOJ and the FBI, which was led by Trump appointees. The theory then speculates that two FBI lovers who were sending love notes (text messages) to each other were the leaders of this coup attempt. The theory bases the accusation on the contents of the love notes.

The theory goes to say that members of this revolutionary group included multiple federal judges who issued FISA warrants strictly on the basis of the Steele Dossier.

Devin Nunes, the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee believed all this B.S., and he investigated the conspiracy theory for two years. He got nowhere. There is no report of his findings because there was nothing to report.
