Barr seems to be suggesting that he is concerned about how the Russian investigation got started. By using the incendiary term, "spying," rather warranted surveillance, he is intimating that there might be something untoward about the investigation of the Trump campaign team and Trump himself.

The investigation got started during the Obama administration, so it is reasonable to assume that the "spying" was conducted to do serious harm to Trump and his candidacy.

That is ludicrous for one very simple reason.

Voters were not informed that the FBI was investigating the Trump campaign for possible collaboration with the Russian government until after the election.

If this shadow group of government officials wanted to harm the Trump campaign, why in the world did they keep their investigation secret from the voter?

On the other hand, these very same government officials who Barr thinks spied on the Trump campaign made no secret of the fact that the FBI was investigating Hillary Clinton. That certainly did serious harm to the Clinton campaign.

That certainly helped the Trump campaign a great deal, and reopening the closed investigation of Clinton eleven days before the election contributed heavily to Clinton's defeat.

The Obama administration spying on the Trump campaign makes absolutely no sense at all. Yet, Trump's Attorney General of the United States believes it is a possibility. Trump and his fans believe this ludicrous right wing conspiracy theory because they need to counter the damaging Mueller Report with something.

This may surprise you, but many of us conservatives get our news from Fox News. Oh, and also MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC the NYT, WaPo ect, ect. Fox News has been covering this for years. The rest of the #FakeNews media had missed the BIGGEST scandal in US history. Now I'm not going to go line by line into the details of your post because there is just too much wrong there it would take the rest of my night. Let me just explain to you why the FBI didn't tell the public they were investigating the Trump campaign: they had no legal reason to investigate the Trump campaign. Secondly, they wanted to secretly spy on the Trump campaign. If you announce to the media that you are secretly spying on the Trump campaign , then it is NO LONGER A SECRET!

You missed the point by a mile. Barr is suggesting the possibility that an investigation of the Trump campaign by the Obama administration was done to harm the Trump campaign.

Seems logical, only voters never learned that the Trump campaign was being investigated until after the election. But they sure knew about the FBI investigation of Clinton.

If Trump was to be harmed, why keep the investigation a secret? That makes no sense.

The FBI had a legal reason to investigate the Trump campaign. You are suggesting the FBI's investigation was illegal. That is absurd. Their surveillance was handled with warrants. That makes it legal. So does this.

About a month before the U.S. election, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security issued this statement.

“The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of emails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts. These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process.”

That makes it legal. So, why keep it a secret if the intent was to harm Trump? Barr's "spying" scenario your allegations are pure nonsense.

He suggested that the government spying on a political campaign is very serious. Unless you want a one party totalitarian regime that is true.
Because there was no predicate to investigate Trump. There was no crime, no collusion. Therefore an investigation into Trump would be purely politically motivated, and it was.
They were hoping to find something to use against him in the election. But they didn't find anything. No crimes, no collusion. Again, it was kept a secret because there was no underlying crime to investigate. There was no emails deleted under a subpoena.
No, they didn't. They illegalil set up some Trump campaign aides as a pretense then used the FISA court to spy.
So? That is no reason to investigate Trump.
No, that makes it illegal and all the more reason to keep it a secret. They continued spying even after he won. They continued spying after he became president. They continued spying after Mueller was appointed. Why?
