I was a teacher. The real problem is people do leave their jobs if they feel they are not respected and being accused of things that they themselves feel are immoral.

I will be among the first to praise superior teachers. A million years ago when I was a kid in public school, I can recall only six outstanding teachers in all the twelve years -- but those six proved to be of pivotal importance throughout my entire working career.

These days I meet teachers occasionally, and truthfully, these encounters fill me often with a kind of forlorn despair. I'm not (NOT) a Rhodes Scholar or a MENSA member, yet often I find that I know more about the subject matter they teach than they do... and that's TERRIBLE.

Well, hellfire, Pro... there's very little about the entire abysmally bad situation with today's public school 'education' that has ANYTHING about it that IS good.

Very possibly the first thing we should do is scrub all the TRASH out of the 'student body'. THEN, maybe higher quality educators would WANT to teach in America's public schools again!

Yes, an educated populace is the worst thing a tyrant can think of. The Khmer Rouge got rid of them ASAP and the Angar replaced the schools

Its not the student body they are running away from. They are leaving because they are under attack by raving culture war politicians like DeSantis.

It to attract more good people ito education you need to deal with this:
Last year, in 2020-21, the average starting teacher salary was $41,770, an increase of 1.4 percent over the prior school year. When adjusted for inflation, this represents a 4 percent decrease. Furthermore, inflation-adjusted starting salaries are now $1,689 less than they were in 2008-09.

What, are all teachers now being accused of grooming and pedophilia? I think not.

Yet is YOU falsifying what the bill says or claims in your own post.
    Go figure
And 55% of Democrats in Florida support it.
The only extremist are the ones like yourself who will knowingly falsify information and exaggerate claims about a bill that even governs your own wife.
Thats about as extreme as it gets.

Well, you're in Florida, and so you surely know more about that situation than I do perched up here alongside the Rocky Mountains. But many of the entire country's public schools are infested by arrogant, purposeless, 'gangland' TRASH.

Maybe we should get politicians AND teachers to focus entirely on giving students a BENEFICIAL education, and forget all the 'social studies' horseshit and then see if that doesn't improve matters. Also, any kid that disrupts class? Throw his ass out, and he persists, EXPEL him permanently! That's what I meant by getting rid of the TRASH!

I meet teachers somewhat often. The majority of them are professionals who love their job. Despite low wages. Despite the constant attacks on education by the right. Despite how states like Florida threatens them, and right-wingers constantly LYING to parents telling them that they are "brainwashing" their children, that they are pedophiles, that they don't care about education and are just counting the days to retire... Despite all that, they are proud of their job.

    Go figure!

What would we do without them?

I won't quarrel with you about this, Golem. We disagree often enough about other things, so I'll just say that I'm glad you know some really fine, dedicated, interested teachers who are enjoy their profession and wouldn't want to do or be anything other than who and what they are. I envy you that, actually, but in honor of those relatively few wonderful teachers I had 'back in the day', I'll simply, and sincerely, congratulate you on your associations and wish all of you the very best....

    Says who? Actual teachers?

    https://mynbc15.com/amp/news/reality-check/good-teachers-are-quitting-because-of-bad-kids

And it’s not new. Been getting worse for decades.

    https://www.educationworld.com/a_curr/why-are-teachers-leaving-profession.shtml

Anyone who doesn’t know the teaching profession has been struggling to retain teachers for years based on student behavior isn’t paying attention to anything except what their handlers tell them to pay attention to.

Really, it would take all teachers to be accused for teachers to be upset. Lets use your logic. Abortion should not be a problem because not all pregnancies end in abortion.

Yes. The teachers are explaining why they leave, and the most common reasons are overworking aka burn-out (because of lack of teachers), low pay and the political witch-hunts orchestrated by politicians like DeSantis, who threatened teachers over masks and other nonsense during the pandemic. God knows why he chose to make their lives more difficult during a time which was difficult to begin with.

I am referring to overall situation, so your link about one county somewhere does not do much to change it.

Sure, teachers have always been coming and going (teaching is not for everyone), but the sudden acceleration in resignations is new.

The lack of respect has been taken to a whole new level by politicians who paint teachers like public enemies.

    Yes they do.
Cops for instance are in decline, and so are teachers all from the fact that it's become profitable to falsely accuse them of wrong doing.

The Florida law allows parents to sue teachers for allegations.

Would you put any stock in what the NEA says on the issue?

Most of the time, the brightest students are the rowdy ones.
When a student is expelled its the parents that suffer because that student can no longer attend schools in that entire county or state. Alot of angels at home are demons around their peers as well..

Expulsion is a drastic measure to take for being rowdy, or disrespectful. Now for a private school, this is understandable. Expulsion there doesn't bar the child from every school in a hundred mile radius.

They seem to be in agreement with what I said, siting burn-out as the #1 reason, much of it Covid related, and they added the easing mask-regulations being a contributing factor, which was DeSantis top priority. Fortunately most States are not at war with teachers, but I live in Florida, so that is a factor here.

I don't know how teachers do it, but seeing politicians making their jobs even harder its not surprise they burn-out and quit.

For those interested in full evidence instead of one sided propaganda.

    https://edsource.org/2022/covid-cha...rs-to-the-limit-and-out-the-door/673124?amp=1

It’s not one district or school people. There are stories like this all over yet you seem unaware of all but ONE issue.

Over the last two years the NEA research shows as much problems/concerns with behavioral issues as all criticism/respect issues from parents and communities combined.

Curiously, PF seems spun up about ONE specific issue. Odd.

So we agree your below statement is not based on fact? According to the NEA, behavioral issues are as big a factor as CRT criticism etc.

It IS based on fact. I didn't see anything about behavioral issues, and even if they are a factor its nothing new. Covid related burn-outs is the biggest factor and people like DeSantis waging war against them during Covid was a factor in the burnouts. Heck he threatened to cut funding to schools over mask mandates, and quite a few teachers ended DYING from Covid. Him making things worse when things were already bad was totally braindead. And now they are adding to the stress by creating laws which can land teachers in the courtroom if they accidentally say the wrong things (forbidden topics). Would you work in such environment?

Yep. Thats pretty much in line with what I am saying

CRT isn't anything you have to worry about unless you're purposely teaching falsehoods.
