I was under the impression that the reps in the house which currently hold the power to increase the debt ceiling were also elected. As you said, this is not mob rule, we are not in a playground, this is a very real situation.

If you can show how our debt obligations exceed our projected tax reveneues, then you have a point. Otherwise, it simply doesn't make sense. It is sad that an illogical argument such as this one is so easily sold consistently.

Well our RW compatriots keep repeating the same failed methods from the previous administration thinking it will work after years of failure. Their inflexibility on raising taxes is the crux of this crisis, and it seems they would rather fail than admit a mistake. As always they are acting like children.

What payment obligations do you think that the government would not be able to pay when our revenue stream is way more that those payments are?

Free cell phones, regulation writing, agency seminars, bonuses, etc are not obligations and welfare is a privilege not an entitlement. If we just paid government employees the same as people doing the same job in the private sector we would save billions of dollars.

Is that you partner says when you see that you are in too much debt "Get another job!!!"

The Republicans have offered more revenue but BH Obama has refused more revenue that doesn't raise tax rates of the hated rich. Cutting deduction to a flat rate would raise $800B but BHO wants another $1.6T so that he can buy more votes to support his run in 2016 for dictator for life.
So on the one hand you want to talk about the election and on the other you want to ignore the people elected to represent us in the House. It is the elected officials closest to the people who are supposed to make these decision and the majority of them happen to be Republicans. The majority of the electorate choose to let Republicans do their best to cut spending and if that means a short dive over the cliff then that is what will happen if BH Obama can't see his way to respect the choice the majority of us made to vote for Republicans.

the debt limit should not be raised, the govt should be forced to live on what it collects from us in taxes. As to the country and the world defaulting------total BS, interest on the debt will be paid first, there will be no defaults on our debt. just another ignorant uninformed BS post from one of the resident lefties.

maybe the govt should take 100% of everything earned by every citizen------would you be for that? then they could allocate the money to whoever they thought needed it. Great idea, right?

now tell me, would you work hard under such a system? would you work at all? would anyone?

Do you realize that we are only paying the interest on our 16 trillion debt? no principal, just interest, the principal is growing by a trillion a year. how long do you think that can continue?

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I am saying that the current debt ceiling would not cause a default.

Coburn and Paul came up with plans to drastically cut spending. Where are the Democrat versions?

Show me the empirics, my man. My guess is all you got is "we're spending too much".

You are hilarious. The debt can't be defaulted on as the interest payments on our debt is the first thing that gets paid. Only if someone purposely changes the computerized system of payments can we default on the debt. What it means is that spending cuts need to be made.

When my wife spends more than her credit card limit, all I have to do is put more money in her account. So the indication is nowhere near obvious.

Was that question of the rhetorical variety or do you really need an answer? Because I think you're onto the dolt.

He did. Without a budget for 4 years, however, no one noticed.

It will do nothing of the sort. We'll continue to pay our debt payments first so as not to default. The only way we default is if some brainiac purposely defaults us.

It is already being done. I suggest we cut the military and every other department, entitlement and government paycheck by the same percentage we cut the military.

I'm willing to cut the military and defense to balance the budget. Are you lefties willing to put your sacred cows on the chopping block?

A straight across the board percentage cut would eliminate the piece meal bickering. Later we whittle it piece by piece. Everyone should feel the pain, everyone. It is time for the left to stop whining and put it on the line for once.
