Maybe replace them with a community force?

Who are you arguing with? How is getting rid of the police going to stop what you're trying to argue about? Aren't you just giving another example of self policing? Are you trying to say Arbery is how you think justice should be carried out?

    Look around bud.

You're in a thread to discuss the elimination of police. Nowhere did I suggest you supported it. What does your point have to do with the topic of the thread?

I asked what the difference was between self policing and the crime taking place in Chicago right now. You decided to chirp about Arbery like it had something to do with that question. You further chirped like you had some sort of gotcha moment. So what the heck do you think you're saying?

Not defunding per se but certainly looking at funds that are appropriated to the police that might be better steered elsewhere.

Even a lot of police departments are on board with that. Police funding is often one of the largest drains on municipal budgets but they also often don't get the best results, especially in instances concerning mental health, addiction and homelessness. There are other agencies better equipped to deal in some of those instances but they're often grossly underfunded compared to the PD.

Improvements can be wrought through observation, analysis, policy and implementation not bumper sticker reaction.

Of course that depends if voters actually want to see improvements. In places where new approaches have been tried there's often a significant decrease in crime and nuisance.

The trouble is we so often use a hammer and nail approach to policing and community management but, if you hit the nail to hard, you're eventually going to crack the rock.

    https://njmonthly.com/articles/town.../camden-revisited-a-new-approach-to-policing/

"Camden’s situation was dire. The prior year, the city had a record-high murder rate and was listed among the five most crime-plagued cities in the country. Something had to change.

Fast-forward almost six years. Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson says the situation is improving. “Based on the metrics for the last five years,” says Thomson, “every crime category has experienced a double-digit reduction, with precipitous drops in homicides, violent crime and overall crime.” Total crime, adds Thomson, is at a 50-year low. “In fact, we have seen a 69 percent decline in murders and a 44 percent drop in [nonviolent] crime since the county police department’s formation.”"

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result,” says Thomson. “It wasn’t until we fundamentally changed our approach to policing that we started to see meaningful progress. We will never return to the days of solely using traditional police metrics of tickets issued and arrests made to gauge success—not on my watch.”

TRAYVON’S MOM, SYBRINA FULTON: ‘I Think We Need More Police.’

That sound you just heard was millions of liberal brains blowing a circuit breaker. Trayvon Martin is a secular saint, and you can’t question anything his family says or you’re a racist. And… his mom doesn’t want to #DefundThePolice.

Have fun soothing your cognitive dissonance!

Here’s wishing Sybrina Fulton good luck in her political career. She suffered a terrible loss, but she hasn’t let it warp her view of the world to the point where she advocates chaos and anarchy. Right now, that’s refreshingly bold.

Every democrat politician that says we should disband the police should insist that the guards they have go home.

You are missing the point. The solution to bad law is not "Just follow the law and you won't have problems" .

It is not that the statement is incorrect - but, that it is not a solution to bad law .. and as such is irrelevant.

Of course their are bad laws there always have been a there always will be but the place to fight is in the courts and legislatures not the city streets. That is how you do it not by burning down some black guys business while capering about shouting black lives matter.

Well - from a historical perspective the latter is how it is always done once the authority has become illegitimate - past the point of no return - shouting what ever slogan of the day it is that triggers the mob - in this case a blasting cap that has been building for a long time - and one that is legitimate.

What is interesting is that what you don't realize - is that many these folks are the one's fighting for the principles of Republicanism
