Does anyone here support defunding or eliminating police? If so why?

And the facts are that before cameras became so common, cops were virtually never found to have been unjustified in their actions. Even today, video evdence is not always effective without public outrage to force a fair evaluation of the facts. Cops who don't stop other cops from abusing their authority are just as bad as the ones doing the abuse. All cops are racist, but it'd not always a black/white situation. It is always a blue/everybody else matter though.

Killed or injured... I don't count verbal abuse because you were being a dick head. Worse thing I ever had a cop tell me was when I was driving 80 in a 45 trying to get home before 12. He chewed my 19 year old ass and then told me he'd give me a ticket but he didn't think I'd live long enough to pay it.

The fact is that there are thousands of encounters with the police each day and only a very small number end badly. That is true whether there are cameras or not.

If that was the worst experience most had with the police, there wouldn't be a problem.

That would depend on how you define ending badly. Floyd's arrest didn't end badly for the cops, even though he was dead.. That changed after all the public outrage over the video, but without that, the murderers would be out on patrol today. His death would be just another day at work for them.

That is the worst the overwhelming majority of people get. Like 99.5%

I'm sure you have a credible source for that number. No person with integrity would just grab a number from their imagination would they?

I am referring to it ending badly for the civilian that the police have detained. There are around 10 million black encounters with the police per year. Around 200 end in the death of the black. That is one in 50 thousand.

Technically the police wouldn't be eliminated. They would just disappear on their own.

You do the math, 94 million interactions less than a thousand killed or Injured

    Dude! Make up your mind.

Do you favor, or oppose, eliminating the funding of police?

    It's not a Black thing, it's a Woke thing.

I'm just glad it's one of the issues that will be discussed during the Democratic convention. I hope it makes it to the platform!

Can anyone explain to me how the murder rate in Chicago isn't an example of citizens policing themselves?

In Chicago, gangs of common interest have banded together and take Justice into their own hands.

They have their own codes of conduct.
    They have their own infrastructure.

How is gang violence different from police violence?

McGruff The Crime Dog Put Down.

In response to a growing anti-police sentiment, McGruff the Crime Dog has been taken to the vet and put down.

“We just didn’t feel safe with him around,” said activist Ray Clarke, one of the people who demanded McGruff be euthanized. “He was always urging people to ‘Take a bite out of crime,’ and we don’t need more violence like that from law enforcement. He has to die.”

Nothing less than being killed or physically injured is considered a bad experience with a cop? You know that's just nuts, don't you?

All experiences with a cop are not going to be pleasant. You've violated some arcane city ordinance or state law that he is tasked with enforcing. Just how unpleasant is almost entirely a function of your attitude. When you give people grief for doing their job expect the response to be unpleasant.

Did someone say that? The information on death is readily available. The other, not so much.

No one wanted to touch my question about Chicago.

What's the difference between citizens enforcing the law privately and Chicago street gangs?

Both are groups of people with a common set of standards about which laws should be enforced and which should be ignored.
Both groups take law enforcement into their own hands.
Both groups have an interest in administering some form of justice.

Isn't the violence taking place in Chicago a prime example of what happens when citizens take the law into their own hands?

I support it now. I see the light! I could just slap a bullet proof vest on my mom and give her a gun and let her guard the front porch. This will also solve her issues with being bored after retirement. And will cost so much less than a police force. Its a WIN WIN for everyone!

Don't be ridiculous Just because you haven't experienced the insulting arrogance of a cop who enjoys paying God doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

In a discussion about bad outcomes when encountering a policeman, the only gauge offered by a right winger was the number of deaths. If you prefer to use another gague, then present it.
