Admit it. You had to have knicked yourself with a paring knife.

By all means feel free to cite the law that bans them in the UK

I think he found something he can defend. Paring knives still scare me though when peeling apples.

The 99% white and middle class neighborhoods throughout my region have extremely high gun ownership, and crime rates about equivalent to those in gun-free (snicker) Europe.

    Nuff said.

The UK, Canada, and Australia never had a murder problem to begin with. It's not as if they had high murder rates pre bans and it dropped off. They never had high murder rates to begin with.

They never really had high gun ownership rates to begin with either. The high murder rates and gun ownership rates tend to go hand in hand if you compare national statistics. Guns make murder far too easy

Then how do you explain countries like Switzerland and Norway? Countries with high ownership but low murder rate. No I think you are flat out wrong on this. I believe economics have more to do with murder rate then gun ownership.

Both Switzerland and Norway still have gun murder rates many orders of magnitude higher than that of the UK. They are hardly comparable given the permanent military armed reserve status of their menfolk. Perhaps the UK and the US are the most comparable societies in terms of wealth ethnic demographics and social divide. The big difference of course being gun murder rates and gun ownership where they diverge dramatically and favourably for the UK

.5 in Switzerland to .25 in the uk is not magnitudes higher. Simply put gun ownership is not the problem. Crime, gangs, and large urban poverty centers are the real
Culprit. 9,000 out of the 12,500 murders in America were done in the largest of cities. To think otherwise is simply to craft an agenda for gun control which will never happen here.

You are simply wrong. Switzerland has a gun homicide rate some 13 times higher than that of the UK

Swiss 0.52 vs UK 0.04 = 'Several orders of magnitude' ... no ?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

. Like I said earlier the most directly comparable societies culturally and in terms of wealth and ethnic demographics are the US and the UK. Where they differ dramatically is gun homicides where the comparative figures per 100,000 are stark = US 2.83 vs UK 0.04

The uk murder rate is artificially low as they do not report obvious gun shot victims as murder if they do not gain a conviction. The REAL murder rate is about .25

That is true except for firearm homicides.

I live in Ellis County, TX. My county borders Dallas County. Dallas is your typical big city with high crime and South Dallas is the worst part of the county. 1999-2008, there were 32 total murders in Ellis County. The current population of Ellis County is 156k people. I counted the 2008 population as 150k. At 3.2 murders per year, that comes up to about 2.1 murders per 100k people. I'm more worried about coyotes, bobcats, wolves, and mountain lions than I am crime.

Most of the research was taken from English newspapers and from english government statistics. But I am sure you didn't actually read into the article. The is murder rate has fallen at the same rate as Australia and faster than the United Kingdom. Australia 33% since gun ban. Us 33% since Aussie gun ban. Uk 32% in same time frame. But the real sign of the in effectiveness of the Aussie gun ban is the increase in violent crime, non homicide. While the us violent crime rate has continued to fall as gun ownership has increased.

Our violent crime has fallen dramatically too and doubtless our firearms legistaltion has contributed to that given gun homicide is down more than 60% since 2001. On balance I'll take the credibility of our Office of National Statistics at face value rather than an agenda driven US GOA spokesmans interpretations
