These events had them reading preselected and approved books that sometimes did contain gay characters but none of them were sexual topics.

Or are you saying that any book that contains a gay or trans character is sexual in nature? That would explain why you see all these drag queens as sexual objects and immediately assign them as not suitable to be seen by children regardless of dress.
