Federal workers suing Trump administration over government shutdown

    https://abc7ny.com/politics/federal...inistration-over-government-shutdown/4997130/
    WASHINGTON --
Federal workers are suing the Trump administration over the government shutdown.

One of the largest unions representing federal workers has hired a law firm out of Washington to protest the estimated 420,000 federal workers who are being required to work without pay.

Federal rules mean all annual leave such as vacation and sick time are canceled during a shutdown for employees deemed essential.

That included airline security officials and prison guards, who are typically given back pay if Congress approves it.

How can someone be made to work for no money? Is there a law to cover this sort of situation?

I doubt this shutdown is going to last much longer than a few more days, but in the case of a long and protracted shutdown, there must be 'essential personnel' that are mandated to report for work whether we're in shutdown or not. But then again, those people can get around that pretty easily by saying they're sick or their children are sick. Can't really force them to work.

They probably had to sign something saying they would work without pay if they had to when they got hired.

I can understand essential services having to keep going, but they should be paid. That's iniquitous to expect someone to keep working without pay.

No reason for a government worker to go without pay. Are you allowed to sign away your rights to wages in the US?

In Australia, various branches of the Public Service have to sign disclaimers so they take all responsibilities for their actions, rather than their employers in a master-servant relationship.
However, I dont think any of them work for nothing...pathetic law that is in the US...

Did these hypocrites sue all the other times the government was shut down? The resistance to Trump has no limits. Don't worry about these government workers, they will get paid, it will just be late. If they don't like it, sure, go ahead and quit save the taxpayers some money.

Why are they suing the "administration"?

Why are they not suing the congress, who writes the laws and controls the money?

TDS covered by the fake news media......that's all.

I thought you right wingers stamped your footsies, and said Gov workers are FAT, and shouldn't get ANYTHING the private sector worker doesn't gets. No special retirements, NOTIN', you said. Now, we expect them to be much moar self sacrificing that our pontiff, and creampuff. Pampered doughboy.

Now you want them to be slaves.

kool, it'll come out that pelosi caused the shutdown and the courts will have to rule that she must pay out any settlements to the fed employees... a win win for all

Well no, that's simply not true. Trump owns this one outright. And just an FYI, even if the union wins the lawsuit we the people of the United States lose because the compensations to those workers will come right out of taxpayers pockets.

What a pathetic bit of journalism.

    First, which union?

Second, no legislation has hit the President's desk, so how can he be sued, let alone blamed, for Schumer's Shutdown?

More dog whistle BS for the terminally gullible.

First, The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE)
Second, Are you actually calling ABC News liars? This is a story that's available on numerous sites, not only ABC. Go ahead, check Fox, they have the same story.

    Ha ha ha ha ha.

The title to the OP belongs in that list Heinlein used when he was talking about, "The Crazy Years" Indeed, some of the examples Heinlein gave to prove a nation had gone nuts(or some of us had gone absolutely off the rails, nuts), have more or less come to pass. What was once unthinkable is now becoming common.

Makes me think we indeed do live in a Virtual Reality as some physicists have talked about, and the analogous computer which has created it, and sustains it, is in the process of crashing. That would explain the lunacy that we are entertained by, daily. Including the off the rails people in this bipolar nation that sustains itself by being in one of the two political parties with each both refusing to compromise on much of anything except perhaps starting new wars and spending trillions on these never ending wars. They have no problem agreeing on this issue. ha ha

One would reasonably expect that the two sides would compromise, with trump getting more than what the democrats are offering, and trump getting less than what he wants.

That would be the mature, responsible, intelligent and adult thing to do. But I don't see many of those in DC these days. The VR would explain this very well. A VR with a crashing computer.

I just hope this VR cosmic computer can heal itself, and become coherent once again.

I didn't see reference to the Union in the ABC dog whistle you linked, nor did I hear mention of it in the video included in the hit piece.

Why should I have to search other "reports"? It's your thread and your link.

Do you care to touch on the other point I raised?

How can the President be held responsible when no legislation has arrived on his desk?

    Explain that to me.

I'm anxious to see you do that.

When the judge settled the 2013 shutdown in 2017, he awarded 25,000 workers double pay for the time the salary was delayed.Only the hourly paid 4mployees received the extra not the salaried employees.
