Florida student warned about saying 'gay' in speech finds workaround

Living in a fascist state like Florida can really inspire people to come up with unique ways to exercise their rights.

This high-school student wanted to share his comments about DeSantis' homophobic "Don't Say Gay" law during his graduation speech at his High School. He was warned by the Principal that any such comment would be "polarizing and not school appropriate.", and that his microphone would be cut off at the first mention of the topic.

So he found a way to workaround the restriction by, instead, talking about his curly hair.

"I used to hate my curls. I spent mornings and nights embarrassed of them trying desperately to straighten this part of who I am, but the daily damage of trying to fix myself became too much to endure,"

Just a few years ago, "We The People" would never have believed we would be having to fight fascism high up in our government. But this is what we've come to. However, in the end, fascism has never prevailed. And people, especially the young, will always find innovative ways to fight against it.

The lesson Florida should be teaching other states is to stay vigilant about who you elect. Because you might be next.

You can look at it that way if you choose. And it will be very telling if you do. But I choose to look at it that we have a much more inclusive, accepting and loving community than we used to. We've learned and grown and realize that all people should be included in our community if they have no interest in harming others...only being who they are.

 

Some of them used to believe in it. The only problem is they only believe in freedom for themselves and none for the people they don't like (which is everybody).

 

It is amazing how you continuously repeat things you know are wrong. A person is not "groomed" just because it's you people's favorite new misused word.

Nobody is telling you what sexuality you should be (if you have one).

Nobody is telling you who you can love.

Nobody is telling you that you are bad, evil, wrong, etc. just because you want the exact same freedom everyone else has in this country to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I am so glad I didn't brainwash my kids. We love and tolerate all people (except you and your ilk).

While I agree, the premise is false pertaining this student. There is no such damn thing about "Don't Say Gay" in high school. It's political ploy and slogan to avoid what 99.9999% people agree with, don't teach sexuality and sex to 5year olds to 10 year olds. It's that simple, no more no less. What Golem and disney are pissed about is they have no loop holes to sneak in their agenda to kindergarden to 5th graders.

Understanding there are people who have a different POV is self explanatory. It doesn't mean you have to like their POV, but just as you want your POV accepted, you have to accept other POVs. It's not a one way street.

 

Do white people need safe spaces? Are they not safe, just being white, out there in the world? As a white person, I have never gone or travelled anywhere and felt I needed a 'safe space'. You?

And, I will never accept a viewpoint in which some people are marginalized and debased for no reason other than the color of their skin, sexuality, religion or lack thereof or any other reason. I'm usually willing to consider someone else's viewpoint but it has to align with my my soul - morals, values and ethics. My tides don't change with the wind depending on color, sexuality, gender or anything else.

I'm reasonable but that IS non-negotiable. I don't understand why it's negotiable for anyone with an ounce of self-respect and respect for the society in which they live, quite frankly.
