While I don't care what a person does in their personal lives (consenting ADULTS is my only requirement), who they love etc, 'coming out' is also a personal event. There really is no need to get affirmation from strangers.

Why do you respond to posts you haven't read?

    Uhmmm... yes. There is.

And he definitely OWNED them. This kid is an inspiration! And an example for defenders of free speech.

What for? He spoke of the subject in their FACE without renting anything, and there was nothing they could do about it!

I sat through a graduation for 4 year degrees in SF about a decade ago, it was like a parody; Gay this, Trans that, Queer the other thing. On and on and on and on it went, speaker, after speaker after speaker. The crowd wildly applauded all the applause lines, including the Gen -Y folks in my group. So I asked them what about the line they just cheered was the most meaningful to them: Each time they would ask me to repeat the line. You see they were engrossed in their cell phone but following the speaker's cadence that alerted them to where the applause lines were. I looked around the audience and at all the graduates and everyone was doing the same thing, staring at their phones and then wildly cheering as the speaker prompted them on the applause lines by voice inflection.

As far as I could see I was the only one actually listening rather than engrossed on my phone.

The point is that they may appear and act more deeply indoctrinated and groomed than they actually are. What they may be is simply loyal and able to repeat memorized points with no actual understanding of the logic structure that supports it or that would be used as the basis of extending it.

But, the graduates were all repeatedly told that they were on the cusp of going out and assuming leadership throughout society, though I'm not sure all of them could even find their own way out of the parking lot.

I agree with the principal, that is not the time or place to go on a political rant about controversial legislation that the kid is obviously either to stupid to comprehend or didn't bother reading. And it is not "fascism" to not let some kid distract from what EVERYONE is there for and all the other kids worked hard to achieve.

This article is complete click bait as well, and only designed to illicit a response from low information headline chasers - Mission accomplished ;)

You are invited to speak at a graduation, there is no presumption of "freedom of speech" or that it is open mike night at the Apollo.

Every speaker I have known was required to submit their speech ahead of time for approval. Why? Because HS kids are stupid and there is no telling what they are going to talk about. The purpose of the night is to honor the graduates, not fan some kids ego by giving giving him two minutes of fame while making an a$% of himself.

He obviously is liked by his peers to have been selected as class president, probably has good grades and a bright future as well. What a shame he is so caught up in his identity as a gay person he misses the importance of everyone's accomplishment. What a shallow individual.

Okay how about we play let's Make a deal? We will stop misusing the word grooming so often if y'all folks stop misusing the word racist so often.

    Do we have a deal?

When I first read the thread title, the word workaround almost looked like reach around lol

It is not breathing the air that is dangerous. If you ever come to the US for a visit I can recommend a walking tour of certain neighborhoods in Baltimore or SE Washington DC. I guess it is easy to be sanctimonious living in White Australia.

The kid has shown he understands the implications of the legislation better than you.

And there is no more appropriate time to comment on homophobic legislation like the "Don't Say Gay" bill, by somebody who could potentially be affected by similar future homophobic bills, than the moment it's in the news.

Calling it the don't say gay bill actually means you don't have a clue what the bill is.
Amazing how disconnected that one statement actually is.

"Don't Say Gay" is the perfect way to refer to DeSantis' homophobic bill.

For those lacking in critical thinking skills, I would agree.
Or you could provide the part of the bill that makes that claim.
So go ahead now and take my post out of context because you can't defend against it

Ummm no there isn't and no one has ever produced one and you can't either.

He owns nothing and neither you nor him understand what is your right to free speech.

And looked like an idiot and immature person who ruin his chance to give a good and inspiring speech about education turning it into some sort of petty specticle

Based on the comments there are people who truly believe the education system exists only to convert kids....sorry......GROOM kids into "progressive soldiers".

War on education is alive and well, - as a matter of fact no one has ever put so much effort into demonizing teachers and education as the new breed of pseudo-conservative populists.

I have explained this several times in this forum. The reason it's nicknamed "Don't Say Gay" is not because of the "words" in the bill. It's to make fun of the homophobes who support it. The presumption by those who named it "Don't Say Gay" is that those homophobes are too dumb to understand that they are being made fun of and will take it literally. Most dumb people do tend to take jokes literally, so they might have a point. And when the butt of the joke is the last one to get the joke, it's always funnier.

There is plenty of justification for calling it "Don't Say Gay", but that one alone is PERFECT.

They are not 'stifling education'. If you want to take that position, why is teaching kids about firearms not on the agenda? That's educational also*

    * I don't support the idea of teaching 5 years olds about fire arms. It is for comparison purposes only.

Oh, and by the by, 'snipped for brevity' is against forum rules. Read Rule 4.

You're being played. The politicians & government is micromanaging it, just the way you always wanted it.

And to argue there is no "Dont say gay" bill is like arguing there is no "Obamacare" either. Everyone knows what people are talking about.

I didn't ask you to explain it, I asked you to provide it.
    Can you comprehend the difference?
