If we are to take a consistent position on treason & putting the best interests of a foreign power ahead of the interests of the US, it should consistently be a severe punishment.

For decades, American politicians have sacrificed thousands of US lives(1), Trillions of dollars & the good will of the Islamic world for a country that has repeatedly influenced our elections, deliberately massacred US G.I.s, firebombed American interests (Lavon Affair) & the US intelligence considers America's greatest espionage threat(2).

Anyone who has followed America's Foreign Policies is used to watching US politicians violate US Law (i.e. the Symington Amendment) & grovel before the agents of a foreign government (i.e. AIPAC). It is only unusual when that foreign power is not Israel.

Trump sacrificed America's best interests when he moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem yet was praised for doing so. Any politician who wants a long and stress free career knows that he or she must placate Israeli lobbies first(3) however, groveling before other international leaders is clearly off limits.

Just as you are unlikely to hear any condemnation from America's infestation of "Israel Firsters" for political subservience to Israel, you are unlikely to hear any objection from the far Right for Trump's follies in dealing with Putin.
