I'm not for or against abortion, as such, but when one removes the illogical and unproven religious concept of a "SOUL" from the equation, then, say a 4-cell (zygote?) being aborted isn't as bad as when that 4-cell entity is compared (both have "souls", religions say) EQUALLY to an 8 month old fetus. A ""soul" is needed to explain how the body stays in the ground, while "you" go to heaven. Secular Humanism has no such nonsense. But with out all the superstitious stuff, a more rational decision can be made regarding whether to abort or not. Abort a zygote: well, ok. Abort when the mom's in labor: well, no. See how that makes the decision easier when the unproven religious nonsense of a "soul" (making a zygote equal to an 8 month old baby) is removed from the equation?

The Golden Rule is a universal truth. You might say that Jesus was simply stating what the truth already was. Of course, when he said that you much also love your enemies, we see a revolutionary philosophy develope. For you see, this sort of love is not natural, rather, it is supernatural.

Anyhow, no morality is taught in schools. If so, what?

There is nothing stopping any teacher from teaching the "golden rule" since it isn't intrinsically religious. It is a social rule developed over a couple hundred thousand years of being social animals. There are a lot of other social rules that masquarade as religiously inspired god given morals in the bible. For instance I can't beleive that nobody figured out that killing people and stealing and dorking the neighbour were not good things to do until Ol Mos' got those tablets. Its also pretty darn arrogant of you to suggest that non-religious people are not decent human beings.

then again believers in the bible are believers in an book written by profoundly ignorant human beings in an ancient and primitive time. The writers were incapable of discerning the difference between a natural disaster and a miracle or an act of an angry god. In fact, they had absolutely no knowledge of the existence, let alone the workings, of natural planetary forces. Consequently there were quite the number of "god proving" miracles taking place back in the day.

I do agree with you, it is very important to teach evolution along with genetics, chemistry, biology, anthropology etc. etc. etc.

Christ did not merely say it was a "rule", he said it was what the entire law of God was based upon.

The kicker is that even though we all inherently know the Golden Rule, we all break it from time to time. Then what? That is why Christ came.

It used to be that children were taught morality along side Christian literature in public schools. Now there is nothing.

You may say that children instinctively know right from wrong and that should be enough, however, anyone who knows anything about children knows that is pure nonsense.

Fossils have nothing to do with Christianity and Islam. A day to the Lord is like 1000 years.

Atheism is a religion, just a very bad one - it's the new fundamentalism.

The attempt here is merely to discredit the faith. They have no real interest in it.

The Golden Rule is also cited in Buddhist texts.

    I await your proof.

You are correct that the Bible does not progress in the hard sciences but does so in the soft sciences of Psychology, Economics, and Sociology.
This is reasonable since the discipline of Physical Science is not concerned with the discipline of Behavioral Sciences, and visa versa.

The only points at which these two separate and distinct sciences meet is when one investigates the correctness of what Scripture states when the matter concerns physical science concepts, and visa versa, when Human Behavior can be empirically explained.

What the Bible tells us about these matters you refer to, in the area of behavior, is fundamental to our education in the fields which the Bible is qualified to so do.
You must remember that in these fields of Bible expertise, i.e.; Human Behvior, we even in this age are admittedly and embarrassingly almost in total darkness.

There is no way to go but up, and that is exatly what the Scriptures have been written to accomplish.
The Bible has now finished the task of gathering the world into one classroom.
    The lesson can now begin.

We await the great teacher we have been promised to come now that these students have assembled.

The reason for abortion is Economics.

America is now killing only half of the babies that qualify for Welfare.
America aborts only 1.2 million babies now, while America allows 1.5 million illegitimate babies to be born.

Welfare now cost as much as the Military budget, or $600 Billion dollars every year, expected to rise to $10.5 Trillion by 2022.
Obamacare pails at only $1.7 Trillion dollar shortfall over that same period of time.

If Abortion were mandtory for unmarried girls who had no means of support the nation would immediatel become fiscally sound.

Religious people must come to realize that their place in this social dilemma is not to stop Abortions, but to stop Sexual Promiscuity.

Hey I am 100% against abortion but I also dont plan on adopting. There are millions waiting to be adopted. If there were no abortion we would have 10M+ waiting for adoption and they would breed in the homes.

Why not mandatory birth control until they are deemed sound and fit. They can have a kid and at that point abortion is not an option. Everybody is happy.

So why not just kill off the poor? That would solve our problems even faster. In fact, the baby may grow up to make a great deal of money. If not we can just off them.

    Nope.

You claim that the Golden Rule cannot be taught in schools. I am explicitly asking you to prove your point, and enjoying the red herrings in the process.

    Address the point.

All I am saying is that it is not intentionally being presented. Granted, there may be a few who try, but it would be like a few teachers trying to get kids to understand math from time to time. It is lacking to say the least.

And lastly, why should a kid buy the Golden Rule? If there is no God, why should he or she care?

People are motivated based upon various factors. One is doing the right thing. After all, who wants that inner voice nagging you? However, we have all ignored it. Then there is social pressure. This has kept us in line from time to time, but not always. Then there is the law of the land. No one wants to go to prison but some inevitably do. Having the fear of God as an additional stop is always a good thing, especially if you think you can get away with it wihtout being caught. Living your life for God can also cause you to purposefully bypass certain temptations.

You are moving the goal posts yet again. I noticed how you ignored the other part of that post.

There are plenty of atheists who are good people without living in fear of a tyranical and jealous god. There are good people who live with that fear. Your argument is moot, even after moving the goal posts.

I suggest Googleing the Goalposts Falacy to avoid the blatant logical fallacy in the future.

First of all, decent people are all in bed this time of night, so I guess that leaves just you and I.

    Second of all, define "good".

Think about this for an hour.

In the beginning the Earth was a hot ball cooling down to a sphere. There was no liquid water because the ball was too hot. As the ball gradually cooled water was able to accumulate on the ground. There was no dirt at that time.

As time passed the Earth's internal processes continued to form water and over eons the valleys on the Earth's crust filled with liquid water, forming the ocean. In the meantime all of that internal energy popped up a gigantic land mass on one side of the planet. It was probably made the planet very unstable since it wasn't balanced. It could have been like a spinning washing machine that has an unbalanced load.

Time passes. The land mass breaks apart in huge chunks and continue to spread around the globe to achieve balance. In the meantime the Earth continues to produce water, filling up all of the low spots abutting the main land pieces.

The point being that the main land chucks were always there. They didn't arise out of the ocean like the Hawaiian Islands did.

I think the Bible model is wrong.

Try putting those words in the Bible. Yeah right.

How about these were simply visions and were penned as they were seen.
