George W. Bush calls on Americans to confront domestic violent extremists on 9/11 anniversary

(CNN)Former President George W. Bush on Saturday called on Americans to confront domestic violent extremists, comparing them to violent extremists abroad and warning that they are "children of the same foul spirit."

In a speech marking the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Bush said the US has seen "growing evidence that the dangers to our country can come not only across borders, but from violence that gathers within."

"There is little cultural overlap between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home," Bush said. "But in their disdain for pluralism, in their disregard for human life, in their determination to defile national symbols, they are children of the same foul spirit."

"And it is our continuing duty to confront them," he added.

    ... https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/11/poli...-speech-domestic-violent-extremism/index.html

Little did the former president imagine, I am sure, that in 20 years after an attack by foreign extremists he would have to be warning Americans against domestic extremists. The article also references this statement he issued on the day of the violent extremist attack on the Capitol at the behest of Donald Trump and several others that day and during the months leading up to it:

Statement by President George W. Bush on Insurrection at the Capitol
"Insurrection could do grave damage to our Nation and reputation. In the United States of America, it is the fundamental responsibility of every patriotic citizen to support the rule of law."
    January 6, 2021

Laura and I are watching the scenes of mayhem unfolding at the seat of our Nation’s government in disbelief and dismay. It is a sickening and heartbreaking sight. This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic – not our democratic republic. I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement. The violent assault on the Capitol – and disruption of a Constitutionally-mandated meeting of Congress – was undertaken by people whose passions have been inflamed by falsehoods and false hopes. Insurrection could do grave damage to our Nation and reputation. In the United States of America, it is the fundamental responsibility of every patriotic citizen to support the rule of law. To those who are disappointed in the results of the election: Our country is more important than the politics of the moment. Let the officials elected by the people fulfill their duties and represent our voices in peace and safety. May God continue to bless the United States of America.

    source: https://www.bushcenter.org/about-th...ge-w-bush-on-insurrection-at-the-capitol.html

It is extraordinary to think that, quite coincidentally, we saw a violent attack on our nation, our democracy, our freedom and our way of life not that far from the 20th anniversary of 9/11, and this time it was by domestic extremists who were radicalized and mobilized by the man who was president at the time. What an extraordinary fall that was for our nation, to go from a free country attacked by foreign enemies to one attacked from within by people who were just as poisoned in their thinking and violent in their actions, and yet were citizens of this country, which they most certainly betrayed that day.

20 years after a day of infamy, we face today a greater threat to our freedom and way of life than what we faced then, and we remember a day just a few months ago that was more infamous for what it represents and because of who the perpetrators were.

    .

Most US politicians are controlled by an evil globalist cabal that controls most of the rest of the planet.

We are now living in prophetic globalist Babylon, mother of whores and abominations of the earth.

Where is God's hero Cyrus ??

I disagree. The Left is just trying to shift the emphasis away from foreign muslim problems, and instead shift it onto the Right.
(especially Libertarian gun rights groups they feel uncomfortable with)

Bush, in his later days of retirement, appears to have been vegetating in front of his TV, watching CNN, and has practically turned into a moderate social progressive.

The fact is that (maybe with one single exception), non-muslim "domestic terrorists" have never done anything remotely close to 9-11.

That single exception was the 1995 attack in Oklahoma City. However, if you really read in-depth into that case there is evidence the whole plot may have been provoked by an undercover FBI plot that went wrong. Where the crime was encouraged and planned by law enforcement, as a form of entrapment, so they would be able to make an arrest. There is more detailed discussion about that view in other threads in this forum.

He's right. We have to stop fighting amongst ourselves and unite against those who are watching us and waiting to strike. We shouldn't be each others' enemies. We are Americans, left, right, middle, none, straight, gay, bi, trans, black, white, Asian, Hispanic, etc.. We are ONE.

P.S. Dur, would you mind posting this here too?

In other words, America will have to adapt and pass all sorts of new restrictive laws, and sacrifice civil liberties, to accommodate the new "globalization" and massive of influx of muslims from other parts of the world.

I hope Americans refuse to sacrifice any more of their freedoms, and if America wants to open up their borders they better be willing to accept terrorist attacks being an everyday normal common occurrence, just like it is in many parts of the Middle East.

Remember, the Left these days seems to believe Afghanistan is a hopeless situation and there's no way to solve their problems.

Thank you George. I agree that BLM and Antifa should be rounded up and thrown in Guantanamo Bay. And, while we are at that, let's round up Joe Biden for tyranny extremism with the Covid19 vaccine mandate.

Bush's statement could be equally applied to BLM and Antifa.....but he has tiny little "globalist balls" so he would never make that clear!

It wasn't "insurrection". It was just an unruly mob, trespassing and creating some minor mayhem during their angry demonstration and half-serious attempt at intimidation. (Read about the Bonus Riot in 1932 for comparison)

Bush has been getting brainwashed by the news media.
This isn't Bush's own personal opinion. He's just parroting the opinion he saw in the news.

Bush is a globalist, just like Clinton and Obama and Biden.... all morally bankrupt power mad monsters who hate their own country and especially it's people. The clouds are getting dark in America and it will not be a pretty sight when the fascists of the left extinguish the torch of freedom. Note that this isn't an American phenomenon. this is the entire European West. The Asian/Eastern European democracies may escape this, the rest of us must resist as best we can.

By any historical standard, he was a bad president, but if even this guy gets it, it's only the willfully blind that don't....

Nice job Mr. Bush... you have earned your place at the next reunion of the living presidents, where there will be one empty spot...

If the institution of this government wants to sustain itself, it can start by actually fulfilling the needs of the people and not merely pretending to. Pandering to 1/6 has lost most of its emotional appeal and will lose more and more of it as time passes.

We did not witness an attack on our freedom or our way of life, we witnessed a meager riot, one that the institutional government wanted to frame as an insurrection, etc for propaganda purposes but could not hold scrutiny to the law. What happened on 1/6 is that this government is as fallible and as lackluster as any other government.

The 1/6 propaganda is the equivalent of certain people telling bedtime stories to themselves to make them feel better. Too bad the stories don't change the situation.

He should have been honest and showed all of the Bush speech today at Shanksville, PA.

Bush in no way spoke for confrontation of Americans.

The best part of today's 20th anniversary of 9/11 is the #1 supporter of domestic terrorism in the country didn't participate...

Best thing he's done for the country in a long long time...

I'll say it again....I like GWB. I think he's courageous, truly loves America, loves God and has the best interests of our nation as his priority.

Unfortunately he is terribly out of touch with real working Americans and is as "elitist" as the media and establishment Republicans. It's sad he is so lost....but incircling yourself with elitists and career politicians will do that.

Concur. I was dreading coming online today because I was afraid he was going to make it all about himself AGAIN. So, I'm glad he didn't cause a ruckus.

We should assess people by their ACTIONS, not their WORDS. Even, NOT taking action is an action (choice). His actions/non-actions scream just how anti-American he is. How can anyone claim to love this country and still make excuses for him? Anybody else would have been crucified. It's unconsciousable.

I don't get it. Working class Americans are in favor of extremism and lawlessness, and he is out of touch for not embracing it?

Trump's absence from the event is both fitting and typical. He doesn't belong in any setting involving a past or former president any more than he did in the White House. Guy was in his element when he was on reality TV or talking crap in a wrestling ring. That is where that miserable 2-bit celebrity and con man belongs.

I really don't think he started out that way. His mind slowly got poisoned by what he was taking in.

Example, every day during his Presidency he read The Economist magazine which pretended at the time to be a conservative publication, but by now is obviously not.

The Constitutionalists fell for the Bushes, two too many times. Soon George P will be telling us that 3's the charm and that he actually supports us, the Constitution and our rights.

    We really misjudged Bush:

He "could just as easily be talking about Antifa and BLM with his reference to violence and defiling national symbols. He never names anyone."

"It says a lot about the decline in his reputation that people just assume he’s talking about the GOP base here."

Bush has gotten as nutty as Xiden. His old man was a globalist. “One world order” was dads line.No thanks, we don’t need one world order. We need to look after our country first. People are starving here. People need
Housing and medical here. Here first. We need to deal with drugs here. We need to educate here first. Once this ship is “righted”, then we can worry about everyone else.

GW Bush is an ongoing disappointment.

    9/11/2001 +20.
The era of Bush should have anticipated that these powers would pass to the era of Obama and they would use them to viciously attack their successor, ending the 200 year long tradition of peaceful transfer of power.
Yes it has. It's time to take these powers, we granted them, back.

Elections will be here in 13 months, make good use of them.
