    The problem with getting half your energy from one source is if that source is interrupted you are screwed. Pipelines are very vulnerable. The can be cut off at the source or any of the countries they cross. A low level explosive can turn them into a fireball.

    And it’s not like Russia never used its position as a natural gas supplier to force another nation to do something that it wants. Not a single precedent in the last 25 years. None!

    Well I guess it is always a race between us and the Russians on who will get yah first. But I think many in America are starting to agree that NATO is not worth our time and effort. To be frank Germany is not important enough to our national interests to be risking what we do.

    You still must feel like you are a comfortable ally of Russia and they warm your heart so you insult the USA. We were used by Germany for decades. I spent about 15 months there worrying that Russia would shoot through the Fulda Gap.

    You still see things as were you still dominated by the Soviets to this day. Germany should have notified us they wanted our bases to leave. But several years back, the base I used to be at closed down.

    Im born after reunion. And of course USA opressed Germany. Former chancellor Helmut schmidt in an Interview told how USW forced western germany to do politics that were damaging to german interests.

    Germany is a powerful country that wishes, and has historically tried, to be a lot larger than it is. It's a nation of great potential locked in by geography. That desire for Lebensraum is what got Germany into trouble.

    Oh the French were right bastards in their day. But the Germans took to the industrial revolution war machine like a baby to a bottle. Assemblymen killing, everything is to be efficient. Especially war and death so that the German people have room to grow.

    Those facilities don’t matter - if Russia cuts you off, especially in the winter, you are screwed. Germans will run out very fast. And, since it’s going to be nearly impossible to find an alternative to 40% of their supply (even logistically), germany will suffer great damages to its economy.
    The funny thing is - if Russians do that to Germany it can’t pull article five - it’s not like NATO is going to go to war with Russia because they don’t want to sell you their stuff!
