Most of you need to know a few facts about Sobo.

1) He is young. Young enough that he has no living memory of the Cold War. That is all just something in a book to him.
2) He is from a region of Germany that was just over the border in East Germany during the Cold War. Thus his local cultural background is probably about the most anti American possible in the old Eastern Bloc.
3) I know from relatives and church acquaintances that in Germany, communism and East Germany's role in perpetuating it is not taught like that. Instead the Cold War is basically taught as being a "tragedy" (kind of like a bad blizzard) that was really no ones fault. Apparently this has been a nationwide cultural decision in Germany as a whole because Germans got tired of years of apologies for Nazism and World War Two and have made a decision that there would be "no more apologies".
