Universal background check would only be for those looking to lawfully but a gun? Correct? Therefore do like in MA where a private sale is done through a portal where both people put in their gun info just like one would have to at a gun store.
From what I’ve read they all think it will help with catching criminals. You don’t really think the govt has the capability to go door to door of hundreds of millions of people do you? They don’t have the capacity to round up 11 million illegals but you think they can round up guns of hundreds of millions?
Technically impossible, to do a NICS run, the entity doing so must be a FFL, how would it be possible to open NICS, to allow NICS access to individuals without the NICS group knowing who the individual is in advance of a NICS request?
That's direct access to NICS model. No Democratic is in favor of such. All recent UBC laws put in place require a visit to an FFL who processes the background check. In my state, it's about a $40 transaction fee for a private sale.
Indeed they would not. Supposedly universal background checks do not apply when there is no method of enforcement. In such a situation they are nothing more than an abstract concept of thought. Is such easily subverted by those who have no interest in abiding with such requirements? If so, then the proposal is not even worth the paper it is printed on.
Such would facilitate sending out letters to registered owners, informing them that if they do not surrender their firearms they will be faced with arrest and prosecution.
Right...and again you think the govt is going to go door to door arresting hundreds of millions of people? You really think the govt has the resources to do such?
Unless such a system is already in place in other states, then the proposal is useless to consider in those other states, as the process is easily subverted.
Doesn't the state of Massachusetts keep a record of every transaction, including the name of the new owner and the serial number of the transferred firearm?
Not at present time, but such should not be used as a justification for the united states government to try and set up such a system in the first place, in the naive hope that one day they will be able to engage in such.
How much funding was spent by the united states government in trying to get a healthcare insurance website set up so that the public could comply with the registration requirement?
NICS doesn't need to know who the seller is. The only thing they are verifying is if the purchaser is a prohibited person or not. Gun registration is not needed for this, just like it isn't needed for NICS checks by FFL's.
What does that have to do with gun registration? We currently don't have a gun registration system yet background checks are being run daily.
It was yourself who raised the notion of government being able to create the proper system, from scratch, for implementing a supposed universal background check system for private firearm purchases. The debacle with the healthcare website demonstrates that such cannot actually be done.
Both need to enter their gun license PIN number for it to work. Then we both print out a copy and walk away. I’ve done it twice. Very easy process that takes no more than about two minutes. Would have been faster but I type slow.
No NICS check required for the buyer? Is the buyer then required to register the firearm with the state or city?
Just keep on repeating that and maybe someday you will find yours confiscated. Pittsburgh Mayor Declares Intent to Ban Guns in Violation of State Law The three legislative proposals are a total ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, a total ban on several types of common firearms accessories and standard capacity magazines, and the development of a procedure to confiscate an individual’s firearms without due process of law. https://www.nraila.org/articles/201...-intent-to-ban-guns-in-violation-of-state-law
