The problem is that many people (not just anti-gun people) just come on this forum to argue merely for the sake of arguing: They do not care what the facts are and they do not enter the discussion with an open mind that attempts to see the argument from the opposing point of view. They just come to regurgitate their talking points that are based on nonsense and histrionics . Even when confronted with hard facts and indisputable evidence, they will just ignore it and continue to spew out propaganda. I think your attempt here with your OP is admirable, but I would be shocked if someone from the pro-gun-control side responds with an open mind.

Well, to prove that you know what you are talking about, please provide the source for your claim. After all, if you are telling gun owners they don't know what they are talking about then it should be easy for you to prove it.

I will eventually, but for now I am enjoying their display of expert ignorance.

Lack of actual knowledge and hubris is no replacement for honesty. Back up your claim.

Without verifiable citation, the claim is not worth addressing, anymore than the belief that women wearing jeans cause terrorism.

Present your source for review, or you will be reported to the staff for derailing the discussion.

Simply because they mistakenly believe that they and their firearms will never be touched at some point down the line.

If poverty is a primary driving force that motivates violent crime, then why are so many high value firearms being acquired outside of the state of New York? Where are the firearms traffickers coming up with the money to purchase firearms that go for upwards of one thousand dollars?

If you can't dispute this with cited facts then you are the ignorant one.

Murder rate falling.... 9.8 per 100,000 people in 91'... to 4.7 in 2011
    http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murd...nd-state#MRord

Background checks steadily up since 1998, this reflects gun sales. 800,000 in 98' to 20,000,000 in 2014
    https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ni...month_year.pdf

Even the most hardcore anti gun folks admit that gun sales are at an all time high and crime is the lowest its been in over 20 years. You cant dispute the FBI uniform crime reports.

I am not the one lacking actual knowledge or exhibiting hubris. I am not the one claiming to be an expert. I asked a question that these self-proclaimed experts cannot answer. If you want to find the study, then look for itself yourself. I will give you a clue. It was a study that looked at every state over a 30 year period. For each percentage of firearm ownership increase, there was a .9% increase in homicide rates.

Lets look at another one that via zip code, the homicide rate and demographic. Homicide is concentrated in zip codes with high rates of minorities, especially African Americans.

From drug sales, GTA, robberies. You know, things that are also already illegal.

Making something illegal automatically makes it attractive to those who are poor, uneducated, and dismissive of laws in the first place.

translation, you are wrong but won't admit it. and when I see gun banners constantly engaging in evasion it proves my point--their real motivations are about harassing people whose politics they disagree with-not public safety

    - - - Updated - - -

and that has been disproven by the link I provided and you have yet to establish your claim

its fairly obvious that his method is that of a contrarian not someone who actually has facts on his side

Nope. Crime is lower today than it was in the early 90's, and there are more guns in circulation today than there were in the early 90's.

You have predictably failed to substantiate your claim with facts.

Several posters have countered your assertion with facts.

So, this is the part were you concede the point or continue looking like the fool the OP started this thread to educate.

I intentionally avoid using NRA statistics because they will be perceived by anti 2A folks as being biased.
The VPC is the NRA equivalent for the anti gunners, and if they want to be credible, they will avoid using biased stats from that group.

I know you avoid using them as reference and you do a good job. I'm of the mind that the really deep ingrained hatred of guns would allow some here to argue against facts if god almighty himself pointed out they were wrong. (Those of you with other faiths or non faiths insert you own deity/non-deity  )
