Lets see how the math goes. My link shows murder up in Florida by 39%. Your link shows murder down from 2012 by 3.9% in 2013. Wow I'm excited. We have had a killing issue here for a lot of years so hope that lowering for one year continues. From the murders we read about almost daily here in Florida we may be making up for the slack of 2013 though I hope not.
Your 38% figure doesn't account for population increases. The murder rate for 2013 is the 2nd lowest ever, and statistically insignificantly different from the lowest. There was a spike in 2006 that I can't explain, but it has subsided, and if trends continue (and there is no reason to think they won't), we will continue to see record lows every year. Are you counting those murders that get off on our unique SYG? (had to throw that in!) LOL If you look at that chart you'll notice the writer was correct about the increase from year 2000. Based on your figures you'll note that the murder rate is up over 80 deaths when just looking at the year 2000 and 2013 - and 2013 was an improvement. Factor in that crime dropped in almost all states in that timeframe. What would be interesting would be to compare state by state on the declines to see whether they show less murder in 2013 than they did in year 2000. In any case the numbers do not look good to me at all.
How many would that be? You are continuing to ignore population growth. Even though there were more murders in 2013, the murder RATE is lower. And, as previously noted, there's no reason whatsoever to think the trend won't continue.
Yes as I noted the rates are higher just as my article link showed between 2000 and 2013. Why should a population rise that occurred in all states in the lowering of crime rates change the validity of the article? Are you looking for an out since it is you who challenged the link and then gave me a link showing my link was accurate? Sorry but you factor in anything you wish but if you are trying to argue with the article, I'm not the article. You've already proven that article information and that should be enough. Incidentally even California has a lower murder rate than they did in 2000. Florida has a higher rate. That is the point.
No, you're wrong, as I clearly documented with FDLE data. The murder rate in 2000 was 5.5/100,000. In 2013 is was 5.0/100,000, 10% less. And falling.
No the article is clearly right no matter whether you factor in higher population. California has a much larger population to deal with and they went down in that timeframe. Just look at the numbers and not the excuses.
Be one of the first 10,000 through the gates and get a bobblehead and a free autographed box of ammunition.
I'm with you on this. Margarita's and popcorn should work well for watching the Ammo night game on TV. Hahaha
I would be very interested to see your statistics on that claim, snake-stretcher. Do you have any, sir? From a non-partisan, independent, objective website?
Facts: 1. People are always clamoring about their "gun rights", but Americans already have the most access to guns in the entire world. Out of all the countries of the world, we're number 1!!! 2. With less than 5% of the world's population, the United States is home to roughly 35–50 per cent of the world's civilian-owned guns. 3. The US has the highest gun ownership rate in the world - an average of 88 per 100 people. That puts it first in the world for gun ownership - and even the number two country, Yemen, has significantly fewer - 54.8 per 100 people. Compared this to 6 per 100 people in England and Wales. 4. The murder rate in the US is 4 times that of the UK. Nuff said.
The Right-wing agenda surrounding guns is an expression of sickness, primarily enabled by money/greed.
How do you know that they aren't there already? - - - Updated - - - None of his 'questions' were invalid..YOU just don't want to address them. - - - Updated - - - I'm sure the bar owners are losing sleep, knowing they won't have to deal with your fear...
Odd how you confuse rights with an 'inert piece of iron' - - - Updated - - - Too bad other violence went UP,though....
The NRA tried to start educating kids about what to do if they found a firearm with the eddie eagle programs...Anti gun folks heads near exploded, and they started screaming and saying eddie eagle was 'joe camel with feathers'
'civilized and modern'.....You haven't a clue And 'archaic 18th century lesislation'?..doubly clueless
Actually gun folk aren't 'killing themselves'...criminals using guns are, which wouldn't matter much,if they weren't taking innocents with them.
'Beware the dishonest gun grabber, the teeth that bite, the claws that catch' You're blaming the NRA for wayyyy too much - - - Updated - - - Not hardly.....easy to blame your fear on the NRA,isn't it?
The US also has over 4 times the population of the UK 317 million is 'less than 5%'? - - - Updated - - - And what does your left wing paranoia say?
One need not be 'paranoid' to realize that we are a nation more about greed and death than ever. It's like we worship it.
There is an answer for this apparent paradoxical position of the Obama Administration which is that the Taliban may or may not be allies, depending on which Bilderberger member of the secret society of 1% elite wealthy have a problem with some of the locals in their part of the world. If it is Harry Reid, or another Senator of the US Congress, who happens to have some special deal in the process, then these people: are the ones clinging to guns and religion. However, should USA troops withdraw from Afghanistan and the Federation of Russia decides to occupy Afghanistan, both Taliban and US Militia may very well soon be considered "Patriotic" defenders against "Communism" similar to Ronald Reagans welcome of Taliban to the White House:
