In my 49 years on this rock, I've been around a LOT of people consuming "illegal" substances. Of ALL of those, only one had the possibility of getting violent under the influence, but his father was mobbed up, and he tended to lean towards violence to solve even minor disputes, whether on the influence or not. Fortunately, I managed to get him out of my life decades ago. Wouldn't surprise me to learn that he was dead or incarcerated now.

People are in prison because they committed a crime, they were given due process on an individual basis.

Rather dated, but relevant. As a former inmate, when incarcerated I would have loved to have been able to work for PRIDE. It was highly coveted and precious few inmates ever got the chance.

Florida PRIDE Employees Denied Minimum Wages | Prison ...
    https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/news/1998/feb/15/florida-pride...
Since 1981 the FDOC prison industries have been operated by Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises, Inc. (PRIDE). PRIDE operates 52 businesses at 21 Florida prisons, employing 2,838 of Florida's 61,992 state prisoners, and 362 free people.

Found this, highly coveted just as I said.

    http://www.oppaga.state.fl.us/MonitorDocs/Reports/pdf/0368rpt.pdf

Providing incentives for good behavior. PRIDE work positions also help the department manage inmates by providing incentives for good behavior. PRIDE industry managers and prison officials assert that PRIDE jobs are highly coveted by inmates because they offer interesting work, paid compensation, and a work environment that is similar to outside employment. Prison officials indicated that because these positions are highly valued, the inmates assigned to prison industries tend to behave better while in prison in order to keep their jobs. The program also has a positive influence on the behavior of inmates who hope to acquire a PRIDE job in the future. Prisoners are not typically placed in program jobs unless they are free of disciplinary reports for six months prior to placement, and they are removed from the program if they receive disciplinary reports for any offense at any time on the facility grounds

Did anyone bother to look at the actual study? Of course you didn't.

I did and this stands out immediately

    https://everysecond.fwd.us/downloads/EverySecond.fwd.us.pdf

So it's based on a survey not fact, it's then reprinted as fact by an incompetent website and very importantly includes people who have spent 1 night in the drunk tank as incarcerated but fwd.us choose to ignore that because it's doesn't fit their very poorly written and obviously 0 researched propaganda piece for people who prefer not to think for themselves.

I am fine with for profit inmate labor. Offset the cost of incarceration to taxpayers. Inmates kept busy have less time to cause chaos and gain some skills.

A US inmate lives very well compared to 3rd worlders living in squalor. Kinda like socialism but better.

Its not imrpisonment with hard labour any more its just imprisonment...the courts have gone soft worldwide, and too much money is spent on human rights whilst in prison...the crims have got it easy...

I am all for chain gangs and using inmates to harvest crops. (I say this as a former inmate)

I did a total of seven years in 3 bids. Maybe if it had been less comfy, I would of got my mind right the first time.

When being released the 3rd time, reality hit home. My brother had just had a daughter and did not want me moving in (who the hell could blame him?)

He recommended the Salvation Army Adult rehab center (one of his employees was an alumni) Best thing I ever did. Got off probation with out violating and eventually got a paying job with them, then met my wife and the rest is history. The worst thing I do these days is toke a bit of green, rarely.

I was not a victim of the system, I was a rotten POS and deserved every day, and then some.

Hahh! A pinch a shake that required two papers and a bigger pinch of tobacco to equal a toothpick penner, cost 5$ in prison in 1999.

Have dirty urinalysis? 60 days in the confinement, 90 days loss of gaintime.

I smoked a penner once and the man showed up to pee test me 15 minutes later. I was high as I peed. Cant believe I passed it!

What did you do to get 7 years?
I fit into the OP article because I spent a grand total of 5 hours in jail for drunk driving. My one night in jail was eventless and boring. I do know a guy who was in jail over much more serious stuff and got beaten so bad he ended up in hospital - but that dude never knew when to shut up.

    Who is your doctor? :roflol::roflol::roflol:
Solzhenitsyn is a complete scum. On the Internet there is a video where this scum, Solzhenitsyn, calls on the United States to launch a nuclear strike on the USSR. If you there is a brain, find this video on YouTube. Harvard speech this scum.
Now about how Solzhenitsyn was in prison. This scum, Solzhenitsyn, worked as a librarian. Was this torture? And by the way, this scum, Solzhenitsyn, was cured of cancer in prison. The fact that Solzhenitsyn was an informer and wrote denunciations his cellmates, he himself admitted. In addition, his wife on has repeatedly confirmed this.

In Vladivostok, local authorities, relying on the oligarchs, erected a monument to this bastard Solzhenitsyn. But people constantly hang him a nameplate around his neck - "Judas."

In Guantanamo, would be very surprised at your statement. In addition, the United States is arresting people around the world. Or require arrest on their requests. At the same time innocent people. As for example, a woman, a representative of Huwei, is now arrested in Canada at the request of the United States. Or the US is demanding the arrest of the WikiLeaks head.
The reality is that in the US a lot of people are in prison, because in the USA there is a fascist dictatorship.

Boohoo. Solzhenitsyn was right about the Soviet Union. Nothing he did even begins to compare to what Stalin did. But you call Solzhenitsyn scum and defend Stalin. **** you.

Stalin is a great man. Stalin in a short time from an agrarian country created the second economy of the world. Stalin increased the living standards of the Russian population several times despite the war and complete isolation. Stalin created a country with equal opportunities for all, where a peasant son could become a Marshal or be the first to go to space.
Solzhenitsyn is a scumbag and scum who first deserted from the front, then was a camp informer and ended his existence as a traitor and bastard. All despise this scum Solzhenitsyn . And only the same nonentities - cowards, snitches and Judas, praise this bastard.

    Only the facts.
    1. The NSA conducts total surveillance of its citizens. (Even Himmler did not do that)
    2. Torture in prisons, For example as Guantanamo or Abu Grade
    3. Abduction of people around the world.
    4. Prisoners work for corporations (as was the case at Croup, Porsche, and others in Nazi Germany)
    5. Police kill innocent people on the streets. At the same time kills even children.
    6. The United States attacks sovereign countries. (For example, Yugoslavia, Syria and others)
    7. Censorship in the media ..... and a lot of others.
What is it if it is not fascism?

I can't believe people like you still exist. Stalin was the worst mass murderer of all time, period. He killed somewhere between 20-60 million of his own people, with most estimates being closer to the higher number. If you had lived during his regime, you would have gone hungry at the least and you would have had a roughly 1 in 5 chance of dying, by torture, by freezing to death in Siberia, by execution, or from starvation. His equal opportunity regime meant you could die from any or no reason whatsoever. Stalin did not increase living standards. Stalin killed 20% of the country's population at the same time that living standards around the world were rising. If you divide up the same number of goods among 4 people as there would have been for 5, obviously the four remaining will seem to be doing better. But it's an illusion. The Soviet standard of living in 1952, near the end of Stalin's regime, was lower than it had been in 1928, before Stalin came to power. https://www.foreignaffairs.com/arti...on/1960-07-01/soviet-standard-living-and-ours So, no, Stalin did not increase the standard of living of the Russian population.

So, you are willing to sell millions of lives for a cheaper piece of sausage?
That’s who you are and that’s who supporters of Stalin are - scum willing to accept death of their peers for cheap food.

Just as in many statistics our black population skews the numbers. Take blacks out of the equation and things look much different

"Black people are 50 percent more likely than white adults to have a family member who is formerly or currently incarcerated, and a shocking three times more likely to have a family member who has spent at least ten years in prison."
