The true history of this country is kept hidden from the public, for obvious reasons. If you want to know the truth about the constitution, you have to read the "anti-federalists" like Patrick Henry, Melancton Smith, Sam Adams, George Clinton, etc. Probably the best place to start would be Letters from the Federal Farmer. I'm convinced the "federal farmer" was Melancton Smith.

IF EMPIRE is about domination, liberalism is about resistance to domination, in the name of right. Within every liberal, resistance to unjust domination runs deep, and just about all Americans are liberals in this sense. It should come as no surprise that there is a long tradition of anti-imperialism in American political thought.

Holy cow, then you erred greatly when you went from voting for republicans whom you seem to blame so often, since we republicans are the party waging war on Democrats over personal liberty issues.

We are the true liberals as you describe.

If one intends to post, they all should own the anti federalists retorts and replies. It is great reference material.

People who call themselves "liberal" are all about domination. They love a big, authoritarian government that tells everyone what to do and what not to do. You want government to take over almost everything except abortions and gay sex. And what's worse, you're the forum's foremost apologist for the Saudi Arabian dictatorship. You don't have a "liberal" bone in your body, despite what you may call yourself.

Words mean things. The US, by definition, is not an empire.

In several words. Bureaucrats do not give a damn. Trump is fighting them and catching hell over what he is doing.

"Liberals" tend to concentrate more on appearances than actual substance.

So while the US may be a republic in theory, it is an empire in practice.

Saudi Arabia is a monarchy.... not a dictatorship.

Trump certainly want to bully our allies and threatens North Korea and Iran.. And Pence guarantees that he will get Roe V Wade and same sex marriage revoked in his lifetime..

What do you call that if not "domination"?

Yes... I even voted for George Bush.. I resigned the Republican party in Oct or November of 2002 because Dubya was going to invade Iraq and I knew it would be a disaster.

I deny they are Liberals. A short study of the past proves the Democrats are the party that keeps creating law upon law with intent to tightly weave a web around American citizens. I felt it first under Clinton on the appraisers laws and next under Obama on laws over we mortgage brokers and RE brokers. Bush tried to free us on health care laws but Democrats refused to allow him to do it. Bush offered 6 plans to cure health care problems. Democrats were extremely angry and refused to allow it to pass.

Democrats would rather hang us all up on law upon law than take a time out from making up laws.

Since 1950, you can see their progress in video form.

It truly was not a disaster. True the planted bombs called IEDS knew no names or ethnicity when they blew up, but I do not blame Bush for the way the Iraqis used explosives.

Bush sent in General Franks and that man did a splendid job We need to thank him for us no longer needing to fly over Iraq nor keep having to bomb them and hurl cruise missiles into Iraq. We do not even sanction Iraq today so they got enormous benefits.

Holy smoke, they only allow women to drive with strict rules followed by the women. I used to date a woman that went to Saudi Arabia with her then husband. She told me she did like it there but that she could not stand their laws. She said she was in danger as a christian with her bible with her. I dunno how you can approve that.

I also pointed out our voter laws to you and stated this nation by definition is no democracy either.

I see why Ethereal is saying it is an empire though. I personally don't think we are. Both of us once posted on another forum and do not feel it is an insult to not be agreed with. If I recall from the other forum, he is a professional in history.

All governments are doomed, and ours is one of the oldest on the planet. This is being exacerbated by the left's insistence on allowing their soldiers to enter the country, and that we must then pay them for their services to the left.

Lefties, will of course, say that I'm crazy but that's obviously what they're doing. Their only problem is getting their thugs spread out into the sticks, which should have them more worried than they are. Fortunately, they aren't too keen on history and probably think that Rome collapsed because they didn't have enough trannies in the military.

Are we doomed to kill each other? Of course we are.

    Yes we are doomed.

Good observation, I’ve called this out before. It dawned on me a long time ago, I used to be a republican. Asking myself, how can half the people in this country be so stupid? How can half not see, and be so anti-American.

And then I grew up, and realized such a thought is inherently flawed. If you think HALF the people in the country are dead wrong because they don’t believe your dogma, said thought is wrong, incomplete or both. The world is not this clear cut.

But, you see the parrots on both sides. It’s literally crazy, and the lemmings eat it up. Fake news this, trump traitor that... blah blah blah. We’re all being played like a fiddle. It sucks when the core problem with democracy is the voters. But that’s what we got, and remember.

We just had an election between trump and Hillary Clinton. That’s pathetic. Speaks to the complete lack of thinking of the public.

    Splendid job?

The Saudis paid a million dollars a day to maintain the no fly zone.. Iraq wasn't a threat to anyone.. Iraq was already crippled by twenty years of war and sanctions.

Iraq didn't get "tremendous benefits"... and they hate our guts.

    Doomed? Of course not.

More people are independents all the time. People are tired of having their lives stirred with a stick by the radicals, left and right, including the Bloviator-in-Chief.

Reminiscent of the silly talk of "revolution" from the 1970s.

Normal folks are getting tired of the BS coming from people who have no idea what it means to "support the constitution [sic]" because they have no idea what's in the Constitution.
