1) What does your premise that i am a libertarian have to do with the topic or my thoughts?

    2) One would imagine an actual Theocrat would be easy to spot just look for people that have very little regard for the Constitution.

    1. You are NOT a libertarian?

    2. What if the Theocrat claims their "interpretation" of the Constitution conforms to allowing States to become "micro-religious states", where State Legislatures can create laws to impose religious dogma.

"1st Amendment"? It's not "establishing a religion"....it's using religious dogma as the basis for laws....right?

    - - - Updated - - -

And then you'd be okay with giving them large amounts of power that they clearly inidicate they will use to enforce their "superior religion" as public policy?

Same deal for Muslims who want Sharia Law???

    Is Ron Paul a libertarian?

Also what about my other question......could a fundamentalist Christian theocrat not come up with some "interpretation" of the Constitution that would allow for religious dogma to be turned into public policy?

I really never tire of the "Jesus was a white progressive Democrat like me!" meme that has been coming from the left for a long time now. I don't remember Jesus advocating for a large centralized Government that gave out freebies in exchange for votes. Maybe you can quote the scripture?

Do you tire of the "Jesus was a white conservative Republican like me" meme that has been coming from the right since Jerry Falwell in the 1970s?

That's scary! Since Ted is about as multi faced as a politician can get, finding a face that fits should be easy depending on whom he is trying to convince.

What does Ron Paul have to do with the topic.. Nothing... Please stop grasping at straws and discuss the topic.

On your second sort of point we do have a Congress and a USSC so your slight fearmongering is unwarranted.

The President. Would you be comfortable with a President (say Cruz) who claims his religion is "superior to all others" and would use his authority to try to enact policies based on his religion?

    - - - Updated - - -

    <Off-topic>

    2. So we'd have to RISK that the Congress or the Supreme Court would protect us from a fundamentalist Christian theocratic President? Wouldn't it be better if he didn't get elected in the first place????

<Mod Edit> Cruz's statements are what they are and why they might be smug they are hardly a sign of wanting a "Theocracy". <Mod Edit>

I do not know what Sanders thinks caused the meltdown or if he thought it was a ponzi scheme.

It was however, a massive ponzi scheme although perhaps not in the traditional sense. It was also a bit of a perfect storm but, not in the sense that the the actors were unaware that the storm was happening.

You can not knowingly sell (put people into) mortgage backed securities that you know are full of junk assets and then turn around and claim "I didn't know" and not be guilty of criminal intent.

Did you listen to the hearings ? You had emails from brokers calling a particular product "a piece of crape" - joking to another broker but selling it anyway.

The regulators were rating this stuff AAA which was critical to keep the game going. I do not claim that the regulators knew or were in on the game (they may have just been not doing their job).

The fact of the matter is that there were many who did know .. and they knew exactly what was going on and that a meltdown was inevitable. I knew this stuff before the movie/documentary came out but, watch the "Inside Job" as it gives a good summary.

John Paulsen personally picked the junk in one security (picking the worst stuff he could find) and then shorted it making billions.

    The big "Pump and Dump"

    https://www.deepcapture.com/2010/04...dge-funds-that-pumped-and-dumped-our-economy/

The amazing thing (well not so amazing when realize how high up the fraud went) was that no one was charged for "knowingly deceiving people". The company paid a big fine but the perpetrators of the fraud got off scot-free.

This is just the tip of the iceberg though (and this post is getting lengthy).

The main point is that this "perfect storm" was created and all the "Fed Heads" wandering around claiming "we didn't know" was nothing but disingenuous and deceitful backside covering.

Many knew what was happening, they knew why it was happening and they knew it would implode.

Heidi just ruined her husband's chance to be President with those religious fanatic remarks. Besides, who wants a "Heidi" in the White House!

Again, how do you determine that? What would a "real" theocrat be saying that is different from what Cruz says?

A theocrat could claim that "under the 10th Amendment" States have the "right" to impose religious dogma as law, as long as they don't "actually have a State religion".

    Couldn't they?

I like that ... I have done a few social experiments as well. The quest to understand the pulse/mindset of the raging masses is interesting but the results are often painful.

I first realized depth of ignorance, self delusion, and downright nastiness (selfish, self centered, deceitful and so on) of the "average Joe" working in the service industry (waiter) while in College.

Has been a bit of a sideline interest ever since.

    Here's another experiment I did....

Took one of the more virulent Islamophobic Rightwingers and gave him a quote where somebody was talking about how people (of a certain religion) were "destroying our country"....and substitued "Islam" and "Muslim" for the religion and its adherents...

and asked the guy "Do you agree with this sentiment?"

Of course he said "Yes, absolutely"

Then I revealed that the words I had substituted were "Jews" and "Judaism"...and the author of the quote was Adolf Hitler.

They take it seriously the same way you do with your personal beliefs. Why is that so hard for some people to grasp?

What is sad is how often this happens. I listen to speeches from Presidents decades ago and you could tell they were speaking to an audience that at least understood the basics of rational thought and civics. They used "big words" and expressed complex (or at least semi- complex) ideas.

Now anything coming out of the White House or State Department is like listening to a politically correct kindergarten teacher most of the time.

The State has managed to dumb down the populace (in specific areas) to the point where functional democracy is almost impossible.

Jesus didn't care about large central government one way or the other. He operated under a large central government -- the Romans. And what did he say? "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s". He separated the mundane stuff, like government and taxes, from the (to him) important stuff -- being right with God.

If you remember, the Jews wanted their prophesied King to be someone who would lead them in revolt against Rome and establish an independent Judea. Jesus specifically rejected that interpretation of his mission -- he was concerned with the soul, not governance.

And anyway ... of the four examples I gave, are you claiming Jesus WOULD do those things?

Silly girl. When your husband looks like Grandpa Munster, you shouldn't be calling too much attention to faces.
