Ike did not say it was because they were ready to surrender. He did not want to use the bombs because it would affect later negotiations with the Soviets.

I did not make that claim - you're creating a straw man - what I said was that Ike was fully aware that Japan was prepared to surrender, and this informed his desire not to be complicit in the most horrendous acts of terrorism in human history.

Ike did not work very hard at all to oppose the use of the A-bombs. His opposition was feeble to the point of insignificance.

Ike's opposition was pretty feeble. He only expressed his opposition to a single person (Stimson).

When Stimson reacted by calling him an idiot, Ike decided to keep quiet and not tell anyone else.

Even if Ike had managed to somehow be convincing, he was too late anyway. Stimson had sent the final orders to drop the A-bombs out to the military on July 25 and then departed the Potsdam conference. When Ike voiced his opposition in Frankfort on July 27 it was just hours before Stimson departed Europe for home. Truman was still at sea aboard the Augusta when Hiroshima was bombed, and had not been in the same room with Stimson since July 25.

Tojo didn't he believed if he made the battle bloody enough the US would just go home and live him and his people in charge, the addition of the nukes and more importantly the willingness to use them change that calculus and more importantly brought Hirohito on to the peace train, and while Hirohito no real political authority at that time his moral authority was absolute. There's a reason that Tojo was one of only a handful of Japanese officers that survived the war that we executed unlike in Germany where most of the upper echelons of the Nazi Regime went to the gallows.

Yes dropping the atomic bombs on japan was completely justified to prevent mass casualties from the US, the Japanese and the Soviets in a long protracted land invasion of the Japanese mainland on two fronts.
