Did some research before moving from NE PA (can you say 7 feet of snow in 10 days?) to East TN. We will get some rain from Ian, but the mountains block the more nasty rains. We are out of tornado alley, though we have gotten tornadoes on occasion in the area. We have 4 seasons, just 3 months or so of real winter, little snow, we do get some ice. Both are usually gone within 24 hours. Some rivers can flood, but we are 200 feet above a water source. We do have a couple of tremors and low grade earthquakes in the area. There is a fault line about 40 miles from my house. It's a fairly stable weather and natural disaster area.
After I'd had several posts of mine disappear a couple of weeks ago for no known reason (no Forum 'infractions', etc.), along with seeing an entire thread (started by someone else disappear also), and with no indication that I had ever posted the things that mysteriously vanished, I started adding "search recall marker" on my posts so that I can keep better track of them in a database that I keep now offline. It's one thing to have your posts deleted by a moderator for cause. That's 'fair game'. But they always at least do you the courtesy of TELLING you that your post has been removed for some reason... things don't normally just 'disappear'.
You would probably like a drive up Mt. Evans, too (outside of Denver). It's actually about 130 feet higher than Pikes Peak, but that new visitor center on Pikes is really amazing... it took them over two years to build it, and it is something to behold. They totally re-did the parking lot also, and that's why you have to have reservations to go up the road beyond Devil's Playground. I have never seen a moose herd up there, but there are mountain goats and Texans!
It seems that if someone reports another poster's post, and it is deemed necessary to remove said post, it seems that responses to said removed post are also removed.
In January 2020, we had a tornado come through, it was the 2nd in my small Northwest Louisiana town's history. Hurricane Laura, last year, was still a Cat 1 when it hit us up here, that was a first.
You ain't jokin'. The Cajun Navy is down there now - I saw an interview with one of their spokesmen who was in Florida this morning. I'm not sure if they've got boats in the water yet....
What might have happened is that your post was a reply to a post which was deleted by the mods. Yours would be removed because it quoted the deleted post. You don't always get notified when that happens.

This is bad, but I've seen much worse. ABC reporting 7 confirmed fatalities so far - hopefully that number will stay low.....

I we delete a post, it will say so in the place where the post was. The posts leave a footprint and we can't get around that. Not sure why stuff would simply disappear with no trace.

I could be wrong here but that is likely what the mods or the admin sees in the mod or admin panel. As a regular member, if any post of mine is deleted/removed, I just get an alert and if I go to the thread I won't see what you see or any evidence of a deleted entry. For example, if I have a post removed and I click on the alert, I get rerouted to the first post, the OP, and I will never see deleted posts, etc.
I feel ya, brother. We've been experiencing a drought in southern Virginia ourselves, so I am praying for all the rain we can get. I'm amazed that this storm is currently off the coast of Georgia and South Carolina and its wind field is reaching all the way up here into the Old Dominion. Tonight the winds are going to continue to pick up and the rain is going to begin and the forecast in our area is for at least 3" of rain tomorrow with more coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday. What a relief! It's been about a month since we've had any significant rainfall. In a little bit I'm going to head out and make sure the chainsaw and everything else we might need in a pinch is ready to roll - the stand-by generator has 250 gallons of propane to run on so we're good if we get knocked off the grid. Gov. Youngkin has already declared a state of emergency but I think the western parts of the state up in the mountains are gonna get the worst of it. The high country is seriously prone to flash flooding and that's where the center of Ian is expected to track.
And Ian is a hurricane again.... The water off the Southeast coast is real warm right now so this was to be expected....
You may get a real drenching if Ian moves up from the Carolinas with plenty of rain left. Man, western Virginia and western North Carolina are SO beautiful!
Money donated rarely would ever go to a homeowner, that's to be handled with insurance. Sometimes they can get SBA loans, but homeowners are not given donated money to repair a home. You're welcome for your new life lesson.

And now the residents of Florida can get ready for the sticker shock of next year's homeowners and flood insurance bill When I left LA in 2015, we were STILL paying the extra fees to Entergy for Katraina 10 years prior and still paying yearly to the flood insurance program for those who chose to live on the water.
