During times of crisis we might think back remembering the laws of the heart which have been forgotten, sometimes deliberately, to not face the truth of the established living order which has over turned the order of the soul so that law is lawlessness, non-reality is reality, and truth is untruth.

Maybe the ancient Greeks will remind us we were once living.

The following quote is from about 431 BC and is not copyrighted.
She looks very familiar, I must of seen her some place, but I cannot remember where...

Hegel wrote in 1807 about despotism and the particular kind of despot which emerges within a society organized around the legal right of "property" which reduces the person to an abstract "empty universal" of a "mine," or an "empty unit of person" where the "inner riches or poverty of spirit and character is of no concern."

This autonomous power of property becomes arbitrary and capricious over time. The law will begin to reflect arbitrary
content of a single person and "to legislate immediately in [this] way is thus the tyrannical insolence which makes
caprice into a law and ethical behaviour into obedience to such caprice....(Hegel, Phenomenology of Spirit, Miller
    translation
    ,(1807), paragraph 434)."

The U.S. is in the late stage of a fascist coup. The 2020 general election may be the end of the coup and the beginning
of full authoritarian rule. Hegel describes the tyrant in paragraph 481.

"This lord and master of the world holds himself in this way to be the absolute person...the person for whom there
exists no superior Spirit. He is a person....Cut off from this multiplicity [of other persons], the solitary cell is, in fact, an
unreal, impotent self....liberated from the negative power controlling it, is the chaos of spiritual powers which in their
unfettered freedom, become elemental beings raging madly against one another in a frenzy of destruction activity. ...In
this knowledge of himself as the sum and substance of all actual powers, this lord and master of the world is the titanic
self-consciousness that thinks of itself as being an actual living god. But since, he is only the formal self which is
unable to tame those powers, his activities and self-enjoyment are equally monstrous and excesses (ibid., para: 481)."

Here is another translation of Phenomenology of Spirit by Terry Pinkard (pdf.).

The Giggling Psychopath has now murdered over 160,369 Americans to date: 140,359 persons reported by Johns Hopkins University, and and at least 20,000 not reported (some estimate at least 28% higher actual deaths).

The Corona-virus-19 is now being allowed to circulate during a half-hearted lock-down that was not faithfully and uniformly enforced from the beginning. We are now in multiple rolling catastrophes.

As much as American propaganda worships the “economic rugged individual,” the so-called “individual” is an empty legal abstraction; and like numbers, are merely empty units in a vicious economic austerity plan based on nothing but superfluous cruelty and greed.

The magnitude of this truth will hit everyone when millions of Americans are evicted from their homes for overdue rent in the next few weeks.

Historically, persons have been reduced to possessions then reduced again to the legal abstraction of “property” ideology that can include anything including cultural knowledge, and regular financial bailouts of the Wall Street Socialists feeding off the American monetary system.

The term "property," is not used here to mean your toothbrush, or your ipod, but the total social organization of machines for economic production like physical infrastructures, the national monetary system, natural resources, and the court system.

The oligarchs view persons as empty abstractions; but it is also the way we see ourselves!

Why else would there not be alarm that a few million Americans will die from this disease unnecessarily on the whim of a despot?

Today, two AT&T Dallas football stadiums could NOT hold all the corpses of 160,365 dead Americans from Covid-19:

“When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few cases.”--Trump on managing the Corvid pandemic.

    "Esse est percipi" --George Berkeley’s

Berkeley is famous for saying, "To be is to be perceived."

Or Trump could really be saying, "If we do not test for the virus, there would be no documented evidence of the number and speed of people being infected," since he admits the test could reveal that there is something "wrong." Trump said "wrong" and not "infected with the virus" since the contradiction would be too blatant. So the statement can be reduced to the tautology, "Counting less means less things counted." He uses the term "found something wrong," but avoids the term "unfound cases." The ambiguity is deliberate and the statement has been carefully edited by political advisors.

The political propaganda the American Empire imposed on others, also imposes on itself.

Trump's favorite phrase is "I like the numbers," when he wants to shutdown examination and leave the false impression that he has given deep thought to a given issue. Numbers represents quantitative magnitudes and are often used to obscure qualitative differences. 160,000 plastic bottle caps, or stadium seats is not equivalent to the 160,365 human beings whose lives were cut short.

Coronavirus data disappears from CDC dashboard after Trump hijacks information.

Remember that is was nearly at the end of WWII that German students published the antifascist White Rose Society Leaflets. Student Sofie Scholl and her brother, Hans, were religious socialists and beheaded in 1943 by the Nazis for distributing leaflets like the one quoted below:

"Behind the concrete, the visible events, behind all objective, logical considerations, we find the irrational element: The struggle against the demon, against the servants of the Antichrist.

Everywhere and always demonic powers lurk in the dark, waiting for the moment when man is weak; when of his own volition he leaves his place in Creation, as founded for him by God in freedom; when he yields to the force of evil, he separates himself from the powers of a higher order; and after voluntarily taking the first step, he is driven on to the next and the next at a furiously accelerating rate."--The White Rose, Fourth Leaflet, Munich 1942

Also, Antifascist Lutheran Theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was hung naked by the Nazis in 1945.

Cal Jillson, a presidential scholar at Southern Methodist University in Dallas: Trump’s ‘nonstop’ drive for self-destruction is ‘habitual and incurable: New York Times: “They say his repeated acts of political self-sabotage...have significantly damaged his re-election prospects, and yet he appears mostly unable, or unwilling, to curtail them.”

Reading Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit (1807) is at least as up to date as today's news.

Hegel describes the despot as "The lord of the world becomes really conscious of what he is , viz, the universal power of the actual world, in the destructive power he exercises against the self of his subjects, the self which stands over against him (Phenomenology of Spirit, para: 482)."

And what happens to the subjects of the lord of the world who is riding crop? "...they exist, as persons, on their own account, and excluded any continuity with others from the rigid unyieldingness of their atomicity. They exist, therefore in a merely negative relationship...as the continuity of their personality, he destroys this very personality itself.. Legal personality thus learns rather that it is without any substance... (ibid., para: 482)." In other words, people are divided and fractured in themselves dissolving the power of a collective community instead they are defined as impotent atomistic persons manipulated by the power of capricious laws based on accidental contingent whim.

Meanwhile, the lord and master of the world is "indulging in this destructive activity in this insubstantial arena, the lord of the world obtains for himself the consciousness of his complete supremacy. However, this self is a mere laying waste of everything, and therefore merely beside itself, and is really the abandonment of is own self-consciousness (ibid., para: 482).

"The inability to identify with others was unquestionably the most important psychological condition for the fact that something like Auschwitz could have occurred in the midst of more or less civilized and innocent people."--Theodor Adorno

Here is an update on President FAILURE.

Today 170,159 Americans in total are dead from Covid-19: 150,159 persons reported by Johns Hopkins University, and at least 20,000 not reported (some estimate at least 28% higher actual deaths).

The death toll from PRESIDENT LOSER'S INCOMPETENCE could fill more than two NFL Football Stadiums:

AT&T Stadium (seats 80,000) and to the right a second stadium, Los Angeles Coliseum (seats 90,000).

I can't belief it either. At least 175,000 Americans are dead. The world community is shocked at what is happening to Americans. The mask has been removed to show the ugly face of the oligarchy at the cost of needless, death and joined with enthusiastic profit seeking.

We are witnessing the collapse of American Democracy as Washington D.C. becomes even more greedy and is looting the nation's wealth at an greater speed than before. All laws against corruption are being ignored, violators receive pardons for criminal behavior, government infrastructure is up for the highest bidder, or is just grabbed in a frenzy. This is the long term consequence of reducing human beings to property and the capacity for consumption.

This is the mentally of the Roman Empire giving rise to an entire line of cruel despots, and which we are re-living today split into isolated atoms. Freedom is not the same thing as fake contingent legalistic individuality lived under an Emperor that rules by caprice, and freakish desires.

"The living body of the state and the Roman mentality which inhabited it as its soul are now reduced to the specification of inanimate private right. The political organization has dissolved into the atoms of private persons--just as when a physical body rots each of its parts acquires a life of its own, which, however, is nothing but the wretched life of worms."--“Philosophy of History,” Hegel, 1837, trans. J. Sibree, M.A., p. 317.

"Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people...The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo."--Karl Marx, Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right, (1843) (pdf.).

Karl Marx is often vilified for his criticism of religion, but if his comments on religion are not un-reasoned hateful attacks against religion, but rather express human suffering in an oppressive society shaped by a cruel economic system. Marx’s criticism of religion was not original, but a common view among the Young Hegelians, sometimes referred to as Left Hegelians. Friedrich Feuerbach epitomized the Left Hegelians in his famous thesis that “All theology is anthropology.”

Marx was unquestionably an atheist, but then atheism has always been debated by persons of faith such as Buddhists, Hindus, and Christian non-theists such as pantheists. There are a number of distinct beliefs regarding supreme deities: theism, atheism, non-theism, pantheism, theistic dualism--and another term coined by Karl Klause in 1828, “pan-e-ntheism.” Tillich understands all theism as anthropomorphic symbolism. Fredrick Engels grew up in a very religious family of Pietist Protestants and was a very close friend of Marx and a serious biblical scholar.

Consequently, let’s not blame Marx alone for his criticism of all religions and go to the one person responsible for this argument identifying religion as escapism. The Christian Theologian Friedrich Hegel wrote in 1795, at least 23 years before Marx was born:

"Thus the despotism of the Roman emperors had chased the human spirit from the earth and spread a misery which compelled men to seek and expect happiness in heaven; robbed of freedom, their spirit, their eternal and absolute element, was forced to take flight to the deity. [The doctrine of] God's objectivity is a counterpart to the corruption and slavery of man, and it is strictly only a revelation, only a (228 manifestation of the spirit of the age."--On Christianity: Early theological Writings, Friedrich Hegel, (1795-1800), p. 162, (pdf.)

After the despotic emperors seize control of the state, two Cities come into being: the earthly city, and the City of God.

In the Phenomenology of Spirit (1807) Hegel restated this passage after describing human consciousness (Spirit) after despotic Roman emperors took over the state (paragraph 528 ). Culture becomes alien to the self and so embraces faith to escape its loss of freedom. Hegel describes religious consciousness has having progressive dialectical stages of partial self-awareness as the “Unhappy Consciousness” (a nostalgic desire for a lost unity), faith (In a modern culture takes flight to another transcendent world), and Religious self-consciousness that understands itself as in the Reformation and the Renaissance. Marx acknowledges the double consciousness of faith, but views all religious consciousness as escapism. For Hegel this evolution of alienated faith consciousness is a metaphysical code from which a complete philosophy of Spirit (Mind) appears.

I find it paradoxical that the student of Christian theologian Friedrich Hegel, Karl Marx, is criticized for being an atheist, but is also criticized for hold Hegel’s view of history which is the Christian New Testament view of history—a history that is apocalyptic and has a telos, meaning a “goal,” or “end.” Most of the criticism of Marxism, so-called “materialist” view of history, is really highly extrapolated interpretations of Hegel’s own idealistic interpretation of history that is also mis-characterized. Cold War anti-Marxist propaganda focuses on Marx, but completely confuses Hegel and Marx’s thought.

In another example, Marx’s famous statement in his 1875 Critique of the Gotha Program "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs," is a reference to Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit that examines the historical formalized concept of “private property” as opposed to “possessions.” In paragraph 430: “That something belongs to nobody, or to the first-comer who takes possession of it, or to all together, to each according to his need or in equal portions-that is a simple determinateness, a formal thought, like its opposite, property."

The standard arguments against Marxist utopianism are actually, in many cases, proxy arguments against Western Christian orthodoxy, metaphysics, and unscientific religious utopianism. Often, the anti-Marxist apologists are criticizing themselves. Hegel makes this point in the criticism of faith by the Enlightenment (brackets my emphasis, but italic is original):

"It [the Enlightenment] entangles itself in this contradiction through engaging in dispute [against faith], and imagines that what it is attacking is something other than itself...This nature of the struggle of the Enlightenment with errors, that of fighting itself in them, and of condemning in them what it itself asserts, is explicit for us [the reader], or what Enlightenment and its struggle is in itself...Enlightenment regards, faith as error and prejudice (Phenomenology, para: 548)."

Hegel follows this dialectic of religious faith and the insights of the Enlightenment to the next stages of Religion and Philosophy.

Hegel writes more on the development of the Despot when the "general will" (Rousseau) has determined that the government which has deteriorated to a faction turns on its citizens. Hegel about this kind of government:

"The government, which wills and executes its will from a single point, at the same time wins and executes a specific order and action. On the one hand, it excludes all other individuals from its act, and on the other hand; it thereby constitutes itself a government that is a specific will, and so stands opposed to the universal will; consequently, it is absolutely impossible for it to exhibit itself as anything else but a faction. What is called government is merely the victorious faction, and in the very fact of its being a faction lies the direct necessity of its overthrow; and its being government makes it, conversely, into a faction, and [so] guilty. (Hegel, Phenomenology of Spirit, 1807, Miller trans., paragraph, 591)."

Because the general will is also reduced to an atomized faction by a single ruler and opposed to the despot's power, the state knows that the general will seeks its overthrow. The despotic government and must then demonize the citizenry for merely considering the idea, or having the mere intention, of establishing a new society and government. The despotic government considers any faction having this intention as guilty and murders them in mass for the victims have been stripped of rights and wealth and nothing is left to be taken. This is the stage America is in now (italics only in original text, my bold text).

"When the universal will maintains that what the government has actually done is a crime committed against it, the government, for its part, has nothing specific and outwardly apparent by which the guilt of the will opposed to it could be demonstrated; for what stands opposed to it as the actual universal will is only an unreal pure will, intention. Being suspected, therefore, takes the place, or has the significance and effect, of being guilty; and the external reaction against this reality that lies in the simple inwardness of intention, consists in the cold, matter-of-fact annihilation of this existent self, from which nothing else can be taken away but its mere being (Ibid., para. 591)."

Those possessed of demons in the New Testament know more about Jesus than those who are normal, but they know it as a condemnation of themselves in their condition of cleft-consciousness. --Paul Tillich

At a certain point one has to steer clear of obdurate folk & their petulant argumentative nature / their inclinations toward divisiveness... Something that I struggle finding the balance w/ here, at times, on PF ... lol :) "Casting your pearls before swine" is the version that I remember from childhood. Apropos - no?

    Matthew 7:6

"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."

    Apropos? - not really sure...
For that advice to be of any value...at least one person or group would have to be assigned the identity of dog or pig...
Opponents will simply designate each other as the dog or pig....hence PF becomes a sea of petulance and obdurateness.

    The Noble Consciousness

The above passages from Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit describes the destructive mind (Geist) or world view of the despotic monarchs of the Roman Empire as an example of alienated culture; but he also has another historical era in mind such as the French Revolution which attempted to make the rational principles of the Enlightenment an actuality.

The “Noble Consciousness” is another mind set within alienated culture that Hegel describes during the mutation of Europe from feudalism to monarchy and ending in collapse This is a moral worldview, or moral consciousness of military generals, soldiers, and other national forces who risked their lives in battle for the good. Now that the state is realized in a particular individual--Louis XIV in this historical example--these nobles are rewarded with great wealth as heroes of the state who now in gratitude to the monarch. Hegel’s description of the hero’s language reveals this state of consciousness during this stage of monarchy; “The heroism of silent service becomes the heroism of flattery (Phenomenology, Hegel, trans. Miller, para. 511). Philosopher Jean Hyppolite’s commentary notes that “Language gives the world of culture a spiritual being….The language of the basest flattery will raise wealth to essentiality. The language of laceration will be spirit itself, self-alienated…(Genesis and Structure of Phenomenology of Spirit, Hyppolite, p. 403).”

However, the Noble consciousness of the state hero is the good consciousness who views itself as moral consciousness.

“Virtue is not merely like the combatant who, in the conflict, is only concerned with keeping his sword bright, but it has even started the fight in order to preserve the weapons. And not only can it not use its own weapons, it must also preserve intact those of the enemy and protect them against its own attack, for all are noble parts of the good, on behalf of which it went into battle (Phenomenology of Spirit, c. Virtue and the way of the world, para. 386).”

Over time the Nobel consciousness witnesses the caprice of the arbitrary and random whims of an unlimited monarch, but is forced into the language of flattery to preserve itself and retain wealth and relative power. The Nobel consciousness views itself as “at the mercy of an alien will” causing an internal laceration of the Spirit (Geist means both mind and spirit) within itself in a depraved society, “…all that subsists, is lacerated, and which consequently lacerates in the first place opinion and feeling with regard to the benefactor [Monarch] (Hyppolite’s French trans. ‘Phanomenologie des Geistes,’1941, Vol. II, 77).”

The demoralized and alienated Noble consciousness sees the corrupt depraved world for what it actually is and slowly transforms into base consciousness for both are absolute perversions, false, and hypocritical. This lacerated divided self-consciousness,

“…sees its self-certainty as such to be completely devoid of essence, sees that its pure personality is absolutely not a personality. The spirit of its gratitude is, therefore, the feeling of the most profound dejection as well as of extreme rebellion. When the pure 'I' beholds itself outside of itself and rent asunder, then everything that has continuity and universality, everything that is called law, good, and right, is at the same time rent asunder and is destroyed. All identity dissolves away, for the utmost disparity now occupies the scene; what is absolutely essential is now absolutely unessential, being-for-self [progress of the moral self as such] is now external to itself: the pure 'I' itself is absolutely disrupted (Phenomenology, trans. Miller, Self-Alienated Spirit, Culture a. Culture and its realm of actuality, para. 517).

Why is the Noble consciousness rent asunder and dejected? Because even base consciousness knows Justice Matters!
