If a man was unarmed why wouldn't police shoot him in the leg instead of the chest?

To my knowledge the law doesn't hold the same assumption. I used the example of victims domestic violence, who often assail cops. The idea that the simple act of lunging at an office warrants death is wrong. There's no legal or moral basis for that argument. It happens every day and cops have tools to deal with it.

And once in awhile they have the back up and the time to do it. No sane department since a loan cop to deal with a domestic violence call. As has been pointed out dozens of times before the notion that there is some huge number of cops murdering unarmed civilians is ludicrous. It happens roughly one in every million confrontations and nearly every time it is justified.

its not deemed normal or moral unless the perp is a cop and the victim is so- called black. its a bi-product of white jesus syndrome.

"Shoot them in the leg" is a myth. Nobody is trained for that, or tries to do it. If you're gonna shoot, you aim center of mass.

As for this case, I don't know enough to have an informed opinion as of yet, but I will say if you aggressively charge at a LEO, naked, dressed, or otherwise, your chances of getting shot were just raised immensely.

That is true and it's a logical training point. That isn't the problem I see though. We know that police must make almost instantanous decisions when it comes to the use of deadly force. They have to react immediately when they believe that a person has a firearm and that's understandable. Why aren't they using this same ability to react almost instantly in feeling compelled to use deadly force when it comes to stopping the use of deadly force? These shooting of unarmed men when the police pump them full of lead by emptying their firearm is uncalled for. They should be just as quick to stop shooting as they are to start shooting but that doesn't happen in many cases.

Additionally I find it hard to believe that a suspect surrounded by three or more law enforcement officers ever needs to be shot in the attempt to apprehend the person.

Nobody is trained for that? Should anybody be trained to be smart and calm? Mmm... Ok. Maybe yes. Are these features necessary for police? I think so. Why is nobody trained for that?

    Cops. Are. Just. People.

They aren't superheroes or even Elite Forces, they're basically you and me with SOME training and practice, but in the final analysis they're just guys who want to go home like everybody. Cops are effective because they're organized specifically so they can concentrate tens, even hundreds of guys very quickly. The Lone Cop in a showdown with the villain is probably the least accurate Hollywood myth but the main drama in most shows. Please note that a lot of the recent problems we've been having have to do with cops acting alone and before their backup arrives.

This is not to bash policemen, far from it, but just to point out that they're human.

Well if they're not educated enough to shoot accurately then why don't they use their batons when trying to stop UNARMED?

Take out the part about the victim being black and I think you might be on to something there.

It is interesting. The police are justified shooting someone for all sorts of reasons, if they are in any way threatening, if they are "resisting arrest", if they try to flee, etc. But if you turn that around the other way, if a normal person shot a police officer for any reason (no matter how well justified it may have been), they are likely to spend a very long time in prison.

I think this is a moral, ethical, and legal issue that society has just never thought about or discussed, why some people have the right to shoot in a situation but others don't.

A ordinary civilian that shoots a suspect in the leg is likely to get more punishment than a police officer who shoots someone in the head, all else being equal.

Gotta love all of these 'experts' who have the benefits of the comforts of home as they assess a cop taking someone out.

    This may help you folks...........................

How much money would YOU need to be paid to allow folks to attack/shoot at you on your job BEFORE you defend yourself?

I hope that you never have to defend yourself with a gun, but if you do, shoot to kill.
Trust me, you want to keep it a one sided story.
