With this President nothing would suprise me anymore. Do you think we should launch a strike if they get close to having a weapon?

Wait, you mean to tell me that this isn't about WMDs, but oil? That our government is creating a false narrative about nukes and eminent danger, to drum up support for a military takeover of the area in the name of Big Oil? Now, where have have I heard that before?

No..I don't. I think we're bombed, dictated and manipulated other people's affairs far too much at this point but, the money gatherers will decide what happens, regardless.

Maybe should should go bomb them all to smithereens, then pay to rebuild it, and call stage a coo. That's what seems to be the preferred method of imposing our will onto others. Plus, it's a sweet deal for the war mongers who invest in these strategies.

So let me get this straight. If the crazies running Iran had a weapon that could kill millions of people in the matter of an hour, you wouldn't do anything? You're willing to risk of millions of American lives?

If the job of the military isn't to protect us in that situation, what IS it's role, in your opinion? Respond when NYC is a fallout zone and launch more nukes in retaliation?

So should I be allowed to buy a nuclear missile and build a silo for it in my backyard? If we're going to allow the dictators in the middle east are allowed to do it, a law abiding American citizen such as myself should also be allowed to bear and ICBM, do you not agree?

I'd assume you don't support any form of gun control, then?

The military is nothing more than a pawn for the elitists these days. We're either a free society, or we're not. Let's sheet or get off the pot, and dispense with this 'policemen of the world' routine. Protect our homeland...fine, but stay out of other people's business abroad. Either we're free, or declare martial law and stop with the bs.

"The crazies". I take issue with that. Who is it that is supposed to determine who the 'crazies' are? What constitutes being one of the 'crazies'? Slippery slope, my friend.

I too, my friend, am also concerned about freedom. And i know that if you are living under the constant threat of nuclear war, you are not free. We learned this from the Cold War. That's why you should support a conventional weapons strike should Iran come close to building a nuclear weapon.

My point is that, even if you don't think the current Iranian regime is crazy (even though they are. Why would they need nukes other then to attack somebody?), in that region of the world things are always changing. What if, say theres a revolution, and the government becomes Al Qaeda sympathizers? A terrorist organization with a nuclear weapons is the world's worst nightmare.

Lol, the govt of Iran uses, funds, and applauds any terrorists that kill Israelis or Westerners. They are the terrorists lol, since they kidnapped our people in 79. Yeah let's give them a nuke. I think anyone who says that should automatically be DQ'ed from any govt position, civilian or military. It's an absolutely suicidal position that ignores EVERYTHING Iran has done and said toward the West and Israel since 79.

I can't think of a worst case senario with Iran. Maybe they blow up a nuke on their launch pad and spare Israel?

This seems to be true, what do you think?

Iranian strategy can be revealed with their mine munitions plants near the Straight of Hormuz. I didn't think much of the few stories I saw on this until I researched the composition of the US Fifth Fleet and saw how much equip we have in the Gulf related to mine-sweeping. I'm not sure how effective Iranian mines will be in conquering the US Navy. But oil tanker traffic? Hmmm. Nukes and terrorism are not the only threat they represent.

And as far as your "America is most hated statement", I strongly disagree. At least among the common folk of the 50 or so various nations I've interacted and worked with, I find most very amicable toward me as an American.

Yeah, I am sure that was a localized Iranian quote for sensationalism. If we were hated over there the ME would throw us out.

It's like racism here in the US against blacks. You know it's there. To varying degrees, to the extreme in the KKK. It's hard to explain, but through my assessment of my cumulative interaction with various Arab and other ME, SW Asia peoples, I get the same feeling. There is a segment of those populations that I hear cursing, "Jew this, Jew that." It's def there, across many different nations. Israel's annexation of land from the Brits in Palestine is not justification enough for the intense struggle between Arabs and Israelis for so long. No, this is about religion. People on the ground are pushing this, just like people on the ground like the KKK and Westboro push the stuff here. Except there, the extreme end of the scale belongs to AQ. And they have proved wily and formidable.

We cannot allow them to win this propaganda war that the "US is evil". I've seen their societies. I've been at their homes for up to 4-5 hours at a time, with their women locked away. And by locked away, I mean I never got a glimpse of any of their women over 11 in many extreme Islamic communities. They will not come out that door! I talked to a 20 year best friend of one Arab, while outside over a smoke on the porch, and he told me that even he has never seen his best friend's wife. No, it is not the US that is evil. I've seen both societies, I choose the US any time.

Iranian leaders have used these extremists for decades, and should be held accountable.

well something you must understand about the religious wars of the east is that it is a war for territory... as is the case for every other religious war in history, this was true when the catholic church was at war with the Turks, and it is the case for today's disputes between Israelis and Palestinians/shiites and sunnis. The willingness some people have to sacrifice themselves for their religious war is nothing unique, throughout history there have been people willing to jump in a fire for their faith... and this hasn't just been for their faith in their church, but often for faith in their government. During WWII the Japanese would choose suicide over surrender to please their emperor, and people in modern day North Korea would do the same

It's what you get when a society's leaders are given the authority to rewrite what is right and what is wrong

Exactly; unlike many others here I actually read the quote. "American interests" does not constitute America.

Anyone having nukes is extremely dangerous. Do you know how many lost nukes and nukes dropped by accident by the USA-even on your own soil-there have been? It's only by the grace of god that none of them were armed. In 1961 North Carolina was but a single, low-voltage switch away from being vapourised. Worry about your own nukes.

And why do you think those people were kidnapped? Do you think it might possibly have been as a result of the chain of events you set in motion in 1953, when the CIA (that bastion of US democracy), overthrew a democratically elected government in Iran, and installed a murderous dictator, the Shah, in its stead? Iran's friustration with constant Western meddling in its sovereign affairs led to the kidnapping, in protest at your actions.
All of the issues you now have with Iran are of your making. Pots and kettles...
Quit screwing around where you have no business to be, or be prepared to deal with the consequences. It's as simple as that.

Say what you will of the CIA overthrow, and how it helped religious freaks take over, it still doesn't change the fact that the Iranian govt is full of religious freaks, who have a foreign policy based on religion and Israel. I probably would have tried a different route than the Shah, but I can't blame the US for trying to do something in Iran; they had to compete with Communists, who were just as subversive as the US, and proving themselves to be quite successful at overthrowing govts in the 1950's. But ofc, you will ignore this, and just assume we should have done nothing in response. As if all one has to do as POTUS is just sit back and watch; make sure no action is taken by the US govt anywhere in the world. Lol, decisions must be made.

The Majlis had already flatly refused to grant the Soviets an oil concession in Iran.

The decision was to continue to pay the Iranians 16 cents on the dollar in oil revenues.. while everyone else was getting 50-50.

Understand this; America (and Britain's), sole motivation for the overthrow of Iran's democracy was to gain control of Iran's oil industry. I absolutely blame America; it is Iran's oil to do whatever they wish with. It is not American property. How you can conflate a democracy with Communism, its ideological polar opposite, is beyond me, frankly.
Understand this also; if America had left Iran alone you wouldn't have the issues you now whine about. Iran, 1953, was yet another example of America's blundering and inept foreign 'policy'. "Our oil under their soil".
Try thinking before you post, then I wouldn't have to waste time correcting you.

So Communists weren't seeking to control the Iranian govt in the 1950's?

Nope.. That was Propaganda... That's how the UK demonized the Mossadeeg.

The Soviets wanted an oil concession and were refused.

We were accusing people willy nilly of being "Communists".. Remember Joe McCarthy?
