Riiight. The 'worst among us' isn't the guy giving strangers the finger and verbal abuse, it's the people in red hats - civilly and peaceably going about their business.

Where do YOU live where? In some bubble somewhere, sealed off from diversity and reality?

You're making it a cult of personality. We're supposed to be well beyond that sort of primitive Third Worldery.

Exactly. No responsible business person, concerned with respectful service and equitable employment conditions, would tolerate that from their staff for an instant.

I'm in. Let's dish it out. By the way, I'm also for sanctuary cities. I'd move to a tax sanctuary city, or a gun sanctuary city. But yeh, let's have it out already. Besides, they started it.

As you can tell by many of the left leaning comments here, it's a common view that's shared fairly widely. I doubt anyone on the editorial board gave a second thought about running that piece because I doubt any of them found it the least controversial.

Telling people to stay home, or they are at risk is a call to violence.

I don't know... you can gain an awful lot of business by catering to a specific political viewpoint. I've heard of a restaurant that openly promotes the 2nd amendment by requiring servers to open carry. They were doing pretty good because it was that kind of community.

Hell, if they required customers to open carry, people would come from miles away just so they could express their support in favor of the second amendment.

Sometimes lefties try that, but it always seems to backfire on them. Like having a bar that serves a female only brand of beer that costs half as much as the kind that men are allowed to order. They always end up closing soon after the grand opening. To me, the first thing I thought of when I heard about that marketing scheme were those ladies drinks they serve in southeast asia that come with a little pink ribbon on it. They cost twice as much as the normal drink, but only guys can buy them for the umm... ladies. It's the same bloody thing, but what works in Bangkok doesn't work in Portland.

Maybe the portland feminists should try wearing shorter skirts...

Not from their staff or other customers either. If a customer attacked another customer for any reason besides self defense, he would be 86ed.

It’s strange to see the party that supports refusing gay people are upset about this and the party that is against refusing service to gay people supporting it.

    Have some consistency people.

I don't support not feeding gay people in a sit down restaurant. There money is as good as anyone elses' What I don't support is forcing a caterer to wait on a gay wedding, some one comng in for a meal is one thing being forced to participate in a sinful act is something else again.

You either believe in freedom of association or you don’t.

You don’t get to just label the other side as sinful and make special rules regarding them — well you can but it’s kind of devoid of rationale — just as many people believe bigots are sinful as people believe homosexuals are sinful.

I live in a metro region with the most ethnically/ culturally diverse population in perhaps the world. We never have to deal with KKK/ Proud Boys since they don't exist in Los Angeles. Actually antifa hardly exists either.

So which is it, do you believe in freedom of association or not?

You say a lot to not really say much...

I believe quite firmly in the freedom of Association. That's why you can't force that caterer to cater and event not in keeping with his religious views.

I believe that people should be free to choose whatever they wish, so long that no other is hurt.

Often people make poor choices, but it's their right.

If someone chooses to take out an unreasonable loan for some useless degree, they can. If I end up having to pay for it, then I am hurt.

    Someone being ‘hurt’ is subjective.

Hurt how; physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, spiritually?
