Is it legal in most States to protest outside homes? Shouldn't it be illegal everywhere?

We've been hearing alot about the protests outside the homes of Supreme Court Justices. My understanding is that there is a federal law which forbids protesting specifically outside the home of a judge with the intent of influencing them. However, in my opinion it should be illegal to protest outside of ANYONE'S home! And I don't see this as an infringement on First Amendment rights at all. But it seeems that it's perfectly legal in most States to protest outside of anyone's home as long as that person is not a judge! How utterly insane!

Taking a protest to people’s homes should be off limits

It strikes me as a form of terrorism...but I don't know the legality of it.

I would just sit out on my front porch and wave and smile at them while eating a bag of Cheetos in my underwear. And there's nothing they could about it. Anything they tried to do, such as vandalism or assault, would get them arrested....

Actually, if I understand the law correctly, it's not legal to protest someone's residence.

But, someone will have to check on it.

If you understand which law correctly? All of the local, State and Federal laws of the land?

Well if it's just a State law, then that obviously only applies to that State. But you seemed to be confidently dismissing my entire post based on what you know.

Seems to me you should be able to. I don't see why not. If you're being violent or trespass into their home you should be arrested, everyone else should be left alone.

Including the home of a judge with the intent of influencing them?

All public property should be open to protest as long as it doesnt restrict freedom of movement.

So people and their kids should be kept awake 24/7 from now until the rest of time?

the argument is though that a public side walk is just that.... a public space

now a gated community can keep them out

Actually, the way I read it, it's pretty hard to protest legally at someone's home. You can't set foot on their property, you can't be in or block roads without the right permits, and in the case of a Judge or Justice, if you purpose is to try to influence their opinion on, well, anything that is before them that's a crime even if you can somehow get around the trespassing issues.

Beyond that it's obnoxious, rude, and highly inappropriate. There's a time and a place for protests, and at someone's house, anyone's house, no matter what it is you are protesting, that ain't it.

No, not unless it is what the people want. And if they want it, the laws should not be at the federal level where they don't belong.

You would be impeached as a judge. Even if it's meant as a defense we all know that the Constitution specifically forbids cruel and unusual punishment

But it still, regrettably, often means someone will as the High Court has just shown us.

The judges are very much the wrong people to be protesting anyway. We should be outside of our local and national Democrat committees, demanding that we be given viable Democratic candidates and pledging our time and money to make sure they win in 2022. As long as we retain control of the House and retake it in the Senate we will be able to legislate Reproductive Freedom as a Right . We can then restore a sane balance to the Court in short order and relegate these dinosaurs to the dustbin of ineffectuality where they belong

I really don't know what is wrong with us as Progressives. The Conservatives have decided to give us the government by inexplicably going insane and becoming Neo-Nazis after their unhinged demagogue was unseated by the Sane Majority, why aren't we picking up this gift they have placed before us?
