    @Golem

are we required to use the right's definition of terms? that is the mistake democrats in america make.

the "woke" business is not a contradiction with the basic program of "the left" = to unite all races and ethnicities in a class struggle to improve conditions for all.

fascists, of course, reject the "class struggle" and concentrate on the racial/ethnic "purity" insanity in order to divide the working class. .

The funniest part of this thread is that the OP seems to be oblivious to the fact that WOKEISM is FACISM
WOKE-ists promote segregation, bigotry, control of speech and provacative tranny burlesque shows for minors and they tell YOU that YOU are intolerant if YOU don't agree with EVERYTHING THEY say
    Pathetic!

Read again what I wrote. Yours is a binary generalization.

Woke people exist. They just aren't what Tucker's echo chamber has been telling you they are. You just bought into the propaganda.

And you didn't explain why... So what if they make it a prerequisite to be a black woman? What difference does that make to you? We need the input the perspective of black women in government. What would a white male in particular contribute that is not already represented?

"Woke" is exactly what you are saying. But if all you listen to is right wing propaganda, Gobebbels formula for turning a lie into "reality" in the minds of the gullible, kicks in.

This is the reason why they don't understand that improving struggle for all implies that they are ALL represented in government. Not understanding this is what confuses somebody like @Jolly Penguin so they don't understand why black women need to be represented in Government.

Still not an answer, and no it isn't a generalization. I was referring to a specific subset of the left, which some call "Woke", which is a different meaning of the word from what you call "woke".

No, I haven't. And here it is you who are generalizing. Just because Tucker may say something and I say something similar does not mean I have taken it from him. Your saying that is a convenient way to not understand or consider it though I can see. And yes, what you call Woke do exist. What the others call woke also exist, and I asked you what you call that second gruop. You have dodged answering. Why?

It makes a difference to me because it is blatant racial discrimination, which I oppose. Its the same reason I oppose it when white men do it for other white men, which I thought you were against.

There is no perspective of "black women". Black women are individuals. They don't all have the same perspective. It is both racist and sexist to suggest that somebody must have a particular view perspective or view or input just because they are a black woman.

That depends entirely on the white male. Bernie Sanders bings an entirely different contribution to the marketplace of ideas than Ted Cruz, despite both being white and male.

By "some" you mean Tucker, Alex Jones, ... and the rest of the wingnut echo-chamber. I rebut that by explaining what the word was intended to describe: people who are aware of social inequality. Which horrifies fascists. That's why they needed to change the meaning in the minds of their gullible audience.

However, the word "woke" is not of very common use on the left. So the definition is not as relevant as the fact that we want equal opportunity that fascists despise.

There is no such thing as "racial discrimination" against white people. Not in this country. Because here white people are the dominant ethnic group. So the system is already biased in their favor. Racial discrimination ONLY happens against minorities.

Bottom line: fascists have revived a rarely used and obscure term: "woke". They do this to demonize anybody who is seeking equal opportunity for all. The worst part about your whole dialogue was that you weren't aware of this basic fact. Now you obviously are. The rest is up to you.

There sure is! Most of us white folk have no idea of the particular difficulties that exist in this country when raising a black child. For example "the talk" that they are required to have with them to try to avoid what happened to so many black people at the hands of cops.

Exactly. And both are different from what Ketanjy Brown Jackson or Sonia Sotomayor bring. Neither of them having EVER been represented in SCOUTS in all our history. And even THEY don't represent the majority of blacks or Hispanics. It was basically an obligation for Biden and Obama to start adding those perspectives. And there are many many more to go. THAT is what "equality" means. On the other hand, Sanders' and Cruz's have been... not only represented, but have DOMINATED the judicial system at some point or another.

No, that's your own wild generalization and locked binary thinking. There are many people who are NOT them, and not even on the right who also use the definition I noted above.

There is nothing to rebut. I asked you a question and you avoided answering it.

I fully acknowledged that you have a different meaning of the word. I was granting you your preferred meaning, recognizing that it is the original meaning of the word "woke", and asking you what word you use for the other definition that others use "woke" for... which I defined clearly twice above. You pretend its some right wing echo chamber thing, in the face of a liberal leftist telling you that I am concerned about authoritarianism, anti-free speech, and identity politics rising on the left. This is a dogdge.

I am also concerned, and always have been concerned about authoritarianism, anti-free speech, and identity politics on the right. Identity politics on the right includes the white supremacy problem. Feeding into the idea that race is important and core to a persons identity (which the "woke" (or whatever label you choose if you stop avoiding choosing one) people I refer to above insist on doing) props up the race identity movement (white supremacist) on the right. You have consistently avoided addressing this actual concern.

You've demonstrated to me a few times now that you don't actually want equal opportunity. Opportunity based on skin colour is not equal opportunity. There are overprivileged and underprivileged individuals of all races. The only way to balance it is to look at actual opportunities individuals have and not use a race procy presuming that anybody of race X must be at Y level.

Who bring something entirely different than many other people of their race, and who bring a LOT of the same that is brought by many white people.

Ted Cruz brought far more the same as Herman Cain than either brought the same as Bernie Sanders. AOC brings far more in common with Bernie Sanders than she brought in common with Condalezza Rice. Using race as proxy for politics, interests, wealth level, or anything else is monumentally stupid and completely racist. Obama's kids are FAR FAR more privileged than trailer park white kids. Giving a rich privileged black kid easy entrance to Harvard does nothing for a poor inner city black kid. This race proxy thinking needs to end. It is exactly the same fallacious thinking that white supremacists base their mindset on.

No!!!! That's the group of people in this country saying the things you are echoing.

    Quote somebody of ANY consequence.

Well, I went above and beyond by rebutting it.

I don't know... "Karen"? I usually don't give much thought to making up a word for people who are not relevant.

I don't know of anybody on the left who is for those things. Not to mean they don't exist, but they are scarce enough to not matter.

I do know many on the right. I have named a few in the media. But also politicians who have actually taken steps to impose those things: DeSantis, Trump, Abbott, ...

Mostly people that made up the way YOU use the term "woke". So if you really are concerned about those, why repeat their talking points?

Equal opportunity is NOT based on skin color. If the opportunity is based on skin color, it's not equal.

Exactly the reason why the term "races" is complete nonsense. And fortunately, what it's supposed to describe doesn't exist.

Correct. Because there are ethnicities. But no such thing as "race".

Fake fascism maybe, but I doubt you'd have much success trying to convince the SS to use zem/zer pronouns. Or the NKVD for that matter.

You certainly won't get ME to use them. But that has nothing to do with wokeness. Just with... being ridiculous.

    You surprise me, Golem!

I don't see how being woke is going to stop actual fascism. Maybe by clogging their crematoriums and gulags up?

And yet the SAT scores of the children of overprivileged black families is lower than the SAT scores of the childrenl of underpriviged white families.

    Go figure.

That’s what I understood‘woke’ to mean: aware of and attentive to social justice issues.

I’ve come understand ‘woke culture’ actually means black culture. Derogatory, of course.

Also, ‘wokeism’ is essentially meaningless—a catch-all political construct of grievances.

If think about it it’s a continuation of ignorance advocacy. The addition of racism and social justice to science and education.

UNEXPECTED EVIDENCE OF RETURNING SANITY? ABA Pauses Move To Eliminate LSAT Requirement For Admission To Law School. 'I certainly didn’t expect it, anyway.'

'It’s good, though, since the only reason for eliminating the LSAT is to make racial discrimination harder to prove.'

ALSO WHY THE ASSAULT ON CLARENCE THOMAS, HE'LL LIKELY WRITE THE DECISION THAT ENDS RACISM IN COLLEGE ADMISSIONS.
