I know I heard the term "wokeness" at some point in the past. Maybe ten or twenty years ago. Not sure. But then I never heard it again until MAGA-extremists on TV and online began to use it again a couple of years ago, or so.

Researching for this thread, I had to look it up to make sure I understood what it means.

wokeness

noun [ U ]
mainly US informal

state of being aware, especially of social problems such as racism and inequality:
(Oxford Languages)

Sounds good to me. At a minimum, "being aware" beats "not being aware" hands down.

No wonder fascists like Alex Jones, Ron DeSantis and Tucker Carlson hate "wokeness". If people are aware of racism and inequality they might (gasp!) try to fix it. No no no... fascists will have none of that!

It doesn't take a huge "leap of faith" to realize that racism and inequality exist. But it does take some effort to disparage a term and keep people from wanting to fix the problem but, instead, focusing on a word that most probably don't even know what it means. Well... fascists had all the time and resources in the world to try to do that.

Inequality is a basic precept of fascism. And to attack it, ignorance is the only weapon they have. So instead of attacking equality and inclusiveness directly (that would make them look bad), they attack the word "wokeness". In the end, they understand who their target audience is. It's not like they're pandering to people who will ever bother to look it up anyway.

Nothing more "evil" than being aware that there is racism and discrimination in this country, right?

Yep! Spoken like a true Tucker Carlson fan!

You don’t want “your” term disparaged, while you call anyone who does disparage it “fascists”.

You see the irony, don’t you?

Pure propaganda for the gullible. Makes them feel good as their rights are stolen and freedoms curtailed.
Funny the people you attack are the ones actually fighting for the freedom and equality you claim to want. You've taken the bait.

Wokesters DESPISE equality. They hate the thought of a level playing field, where anyone can get ahead regardless of race, gender, or privilege. They loathe what that means .. that people will be measured by their merit. By the content of their character.

Wokeness is fascism. The antidote is American Constitutional Liberalism.

Wokism is Marxist conspiracy theory writ large. Its sole purpose is to destroy the US as a bastion of freedom so every piece of history must be discredited or destroyed. The body politic must be fractured into ever smaller interest groups each clamoring for a piece of the government pie so that the whole thing might be fractured beyond anyone's ability to put it back together.

Nonsense. America is the most protective of minority rights among all large multi-ethnic countries in the world. We're not perfect but we don't have to be perfect to be better than all the rest.

Yeah lol Thats cute. You want to take a standard definition and apply it to political wokeness?
First the left was all in on political correctness, next it was affirmative action, multiculturalism, feminism, and what is loosely called postmodernism or poststructuralism.
Its just another leftist imbecilic fad. So since you are obviously not connected to the reality of what political wokeness means, I'll educate you.

Wokeism’s natural logic is to destroy the lives of people of both genders, of all races, and—if need be—those of every age, all to leverage an otherwise unworkable ideological agenda. It is nihilist and destroys everything it touches. It tears apart foes and friends alike. Like the woke effort to redefine transitioning biological males as identical to biological women or to to indoctrinate children with the lie that they are innately guilty of oppression due to their skin color.

So if you want to claim you're woke. I for one actually believe you.

"Wokeism’s natural logic is to destroy the lives of people"

that is like saying "religion's natural logic is to convert or kill"

yes, at worst they can be that, but to the majority they are not

It only means that to people who consider themselves woke. To the rest of us, it means 'insisting there is a societal influence of racism far greater than actually exists.' And no, nb4 the army of strawmen, I'm not saying racism doesn't exist at all...

Farcical concepts like 'accidental racism', 'microaggressions' and the theory promoted by many 'Critical Race Theory (supposed) scholars' that white people are especially racist because they're not as racist (or, in their words 'don't value a racial identity as heavily') as other ethnicities, make wokeness more reminiscent of a belief system, or dare I say a religion, than it is anything else.

Only thanks to the noble & persistent efforts of the socialist minded, progressive thinkers & activists. If not for them we'd still be whipping slaves.
We can say that because, through empire-building, we've systematically destroyed the sovereign independence of almost all of the world's nations & cultures. Virtually all nations/cultures are now subject to Western monetary/capitalist hegemony. And 800+ military bases worldwide, patrolling naval vessels, thousands of satellites, $trillions in defense spending, wars & invasions, covert ops, and economic hit-men ensures that we keep it that way.

As a reminder...

“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.” ― Major General Smedley D. Butler, War is a Racket (1935)

Has anything changed since?

so the right claiming to be "woke" to white racism for example can be taken to far

this is the definition... remember

"state of being aware, especially of social problems such as racism and inequality:"

so anyone that is aware of social problems

sure, there is white racism, there is black racism, be woke to that - but do not blame all of the other race for it, do not punish the other race for it

It was due to industrialization. The reason that the North beat the South was the industrialization of the North. Slavery retarded economic growth and was more expensive than employees with machines. Without machines, slavery would never have ended. Without machines, 90% of the world's population would starve within a year.

Basically it was GREED that ended slavery above all else. Filthy rich men wanted more money and they saw slavery as an impediment to that objective. Not much has happened since then. Filthy rich men want to import the third world into America and are doing it. There are no morals involved, just amoral greed. The virtue signaling is just the justification of their actions to the masses.

I think we have all known people that weren't happy unless they had a problem to whine about. you know the type... everyone is out in the sun playing and having fun but they stay indoors whining about how their shoes hurt or they are too tired so they'll stay inside. That's what "wokesters" do. Instead of celebrating the freedom we enjoy where we can start businesses, become astronauts, doctors or even Presidents (or Secretaries of Defense) without regard to race, creed or religion or just about anything else but ability and ambition, wokesters would rather stay inside and whine.

My roommate in college was raised in Spanish Harlem, in a urine smelling tenement with no dad around. He's an MD today. Another roommate, son of a coal miner, is a retired Army Colonel today, having fun in retirement. I guess its all about being a "glass half full" or "glass half empty" kind of person. If you want to a winner, that's what you'll be. If you are more comfortable being a victim... well, then... that's what you'll be.

Most problems we face in life are problems we've created for ourselves. Most successes we find in life are successes we've created for ourselves.
