Looking at the aftermath and the bad choices made and, in many ways worst of all, why they were made. There would have been no Cold War, Russia would have been weakened and all the respective peoples of their respective Empires would have quietly or not so quietly taken their countries into their own hands ( We never said we owned them it was always the said intent of Empire to give the power to the people ) but it would all have been more orderly as it was we were all broken and so it was all horribly messy. The real intent of the USA had always been to break all Empires.

No, my question is to why you think our days of being a big player are at an end. No one can match the US's combined economic, political and military capacity. Eventually China might but that is still 10-20 years down the road at best...if they even ever want to assert that role. Russia is a joke, NATO allies don't want to invest in military capacity as long as we do it for them, Britain is a paper tiger and India is 3o-50 years down the road from establishing themselves as a major player.

So who is going to challenge us? Britian should just be glad the US has historical affections for them or you could end up like France.

 

That part of Poland which was sometimes Germany? We do not know what would have happened if France and Britain had not declared War. What ever we may feel about The Third Reich, Hitler did not want War he had been reaching out for peace between us all. Yes there are other factors in this and one was that he was fighting The Soviet Union.

As for the rest if we had just let them fight neither would have been very powerful afterwards, as it was how many Europeans lost their lives? It was devastating and what for? Nothing we gained nothing we all lost.
