1) So? You're talking about a very unusual and tiny demographic of oddballs who live outside ordinary society. If you have to resort to this kind of extrem to find 'solid ground' in your position, you're ****ed.

2) Yes, because the Welfare State measures need in dollars. Need is a state of being, not a dollar amount. You can only know someone is in need via the state of their being (prior to the point they put their hand out). Did they BEHAVE like someone in need, or did they not? That's where the crucial information is found. A millionaire could spend a weekend in Vegas and blow the lot. Is he in need? Of course not. But the Welfare State would say he is, and thus start funding him. Meantime, someone who did everything right all their lives, but were wiped out in some disaster .. might miss out because they do not meet an arbitrary 'dollar' criteria. It's freaking despicable.

3) Poor people are multiple times more likely to be obese than non-poor people. If your wife is in nutrition, she would know this. Meantime, do those hungry six year olds have fat parents? Are their parents eating? WHY are they hungry? If the answer lies anywhere near 'personal choices on the part of their parents', you're making the problem worse by enabling it. These slum-dwelling kids don't go to school hungry, because they have responsible parents:

 

The First World 'poor' have been enabled to spend themselves into ever deeper poverty. We actually think it's our right to live beyond our means ... to the point that when a very reasonable profile of 'poor behaviour' is presented, we freak out and cry 'bullshit!'. We're actually offended.

 

Some lands were conquered, America is one of them, so is Mexico, Central and South America and who can forget Australia and to the victor goes the spoils. From what I see, with the exception of China, no one is in a rush to conquer Africa.

Is it according to their FINANCIAL circumstances? Or is it their nice smile?

 

Do they have a job, how much they make, number of children, expenses, etc.

 

And all those things are about what? Money? or nice smiles?
