    So we should have kept about 700 troops in Somalia to do what exactly?

    We are mostly likely back in Somalia for this reason;

    The United States relies on Russia and its allies Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for roughly half of the uranium powering its nuclear plants - about 22.8 million pounds(10.3 million kg) in 2020 - which in turn produce about 20% of U.S. electricity, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration and the World Nuclear Association.

    The exploited natural resource of Somalia is mainly uranium. However, there are many unexploited reserves of bauxite, copper, iron ore, tin, gypsum, salt, natural gas, and probable oil reserves. The country’s mineral sector is largely underdeveloped and only makes a small contribution towards exports and economy in general.

    Well there is a civil war going on there now so if it's exporting much of anything this year that's a surprise.

    I guess that is why US troops are there. Securing Somalia is job one.

    I don't think they are there now. I think Trump pulled them out.

    Intelligence, force option, and the exercise of the AUMF option if necessary in order to protect our security interests in the Gulf of Hormuz. You know, the bill passed by a GOP congress and signed by a GOP president.

    They were pulled out in 2020 and should have never been pulled out. Yes, there is a civil war going on, and AQ and other Islamic terrorist organizations are there in a free for all. We are there to make sure it does not spill to other countries, like Tanzania, among others.

    Well if somehow John Bolton becomes President, don't worry, you'll soon have US troops back in Somalia, and every other country that the AUMF can be stretched to accommodate and plenty that can't.
