The United States was warned last year that a pandemic could lead to serious problems if President Donald Trump and his administration didn’t take public health readiness more seriously.

Stanford lecturer Brett McGurk cited a document from the office the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats’ 2019 “Worldwide Threat Assessment,” which specifically warns of a disease like the coronavirus.”

I'll accept that as your unqualified admission that you can't do it.

    Got it...

“Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus, Trump said. “They have no clue, they can't even count their votes in Iowa.”

“This is their new hoax,” Trump continued, adding that attacking the White House’s response to the coronavirus had become the Democratic Party’s “single talking point.”

What's to define. He said it. I am sure you likely watched the campaign rally he said it at.

    What a hoot.
He took office at the beginning of the worst economic downturn since the great depression.
And then went to put together the base for one of the longest economic expansions in history.

    And now, poof, gone again.
    But obama was bad.

The last times now a R prez was in office, recession. We should never elect another R prez if we want to avoid recession, I guess.

    You've done nothing.

    You're a failure...

The US may have been the best prepared except for one major fail. The testing kits. South Korea dodged the bullet by massive testing from the beginning and using those results to identify hot spots and isolating people and their contacts. Despite having more time and the world's mightiest industrial complex we failed.
Could it have been prevented? Of course, anything can be prevented except death and taxes if you have the right info. The disbanding of the pandemic team in the White House prevented Trump from having a built in team of scientists advising him and providing a focal point for action instead it appeared he was being advised by FOXnews.
But all that is water under the bridge, it's time to be ever vigilant. We can return there come election time but for now we need our focus on the task at hand.

We need to be better about not spreading the virus, not looking to lessen the fight. Too many still think that because they're young and strong they have no worries. Typhoid Mary, they need the story of Typhoid Mary who spread the disease to many while she herself was not sick. If a 30 something goes about life as before because they'd survive OK how about their parents, Aunts, Uncles, Grand parents? How about the people who need hospital care who can't get into the hospital because all the beds are occupied by those infected by the "invincible" 30 somethings? How'd they like to have their appendix removed in a tent in the parking lot? How about if the doctor removing that appendix has been working 20 hours a day and her nurses 22 for the previous 3 weeks? Social distancing means everyone or no one. It can work or it can fail. There is no so so result.

Almost as important, learn from the mistakes and don't repeat them. Kids being born now will be known as generation C. Covid-19 will subside but it will also come back. Look at Ebola. Each outbreak gets contained but then years later it comes back in an entirely different place. Viruses are all like that. We'll get through this but let's not go through it again OK? We had the time, there should have been millions of test kits ready when the first case arrived in Washington. Instead there were none. That was the link in the chain that broke.

    When response fails, another insult.
It’s not my fault you won’t read references.
