No surprise at all. Those are private federally protected documents.

"In a snap ruling from the bench, U.S. District Judge Morrison England of the Easter District of California on Thursday temporarily blocked a new California law requiring presidential candidates to disclose five years of tax returns to appear on the 2020 primary ballot.

The tentative ruling followed a free-wheeling, two-hour hearing over a request by President Donald Trump’s campaign and Republicans at the state and federal law for a preliminary injunction. Lawyers arguing the case were preparing to leave the courtroom at the end of arguments when England told everyone to wait and then announced how he intended to rule."

And again the never answered question. Those who are demanding he release them, what is it exactly do you expect to find in them that is not already in his FEC financial disclosures he has to file already.

Yet states can choose to not even hold a primary? States make the rules in elections held in their states as long as they do not make unconstitutional rules like only men wearing argyle socks may vote. The only question the judge is addressing is if it is redundant and places an unnecessary burden on the candidate. There is no constitutional issue here.
Candidates turn in their tax returns as a means of making their financial statements verifiable. This makes identifying conflicts of interest and other self interests easier and restores some confidence to the electorate.

The party decides if it wants to hold a primary. Lots of state parties held no primaries the second time Obama ran. Primaries are held by the party for their own benefit.

The Iowa primary? Oh wait, they don't have one. Those states that have chosen not to have primaries on the republican side does the state then not allow that party on the ballot? A state would be within it's rights to require candidates selected by primaries but many choose not to. There is no constitutional issue here, only is the tax return redundant and therefore an unnecessary burden since the candidates file financial statements.

I think the ruling by the federal judge is appropriate, though I want the returns released.

SCOTUS is the right decision maker in this case.

The PARTY decides if they want or need to hold a primary. And they still meet the qualifications for the general election for the ELECTORS.

In general States hold primaries and parties choose to participate or not. There are exceptions, Iowa doesn't hold a primary for example. California holds a primary for president whereby if the party chooses to participate they can use it to select a candidate but down the ticket the choices aren't Republicans deciding who the Republican candidates will be but rather who the final two candidates regardless of party will be in the election for each post. States can and do make their own rules as they see fit. This case has no constitutional issues, only is the requirement redundant and an unnecessary burden.
Personally I'd really like confirmation that the financial statements are accurate. I don't need to see his returns for that but someone should.

The bigger question is what are you looking to find in them and no one on your side of this has been able to explain. The bigger question is these are federally protected documents and the only criteria for the President are listed in the Constitution so why does California think they can usurp that?

And if no party needs or wants a primary the State doesn't hold one, they are for the benefit of the party. I'm sure the IRS has as much access to the FEC financial records and the financial disclosure forms the President files as you and I do. They are online. They are free to compare them but again. What information on his tax return is it the people want to see that has to do with anything that is not already on his financial disclosure forms. About the only answer I can ever get is "well I want to see if he is really worth that much" which of course is not on his tax return or "I want to see who he owes money" which of course is not on his tax return.

Yea that question is yuge. Our tax codes are complicated. Like Trump, you have likely violated several. Lets take that powerful weapon you cheer for when used against Trump and aim it at you for your political views. Do you think the monster you create will only eat one meal and then stop forever?

The scary part is what Leftists are willing to do when they are in power. They actually wanted to subvert the requirements, specifically detailed int eh U.S. Constitution on what it takes to run for President of the United States. To make matters worse, they did it to target their opposition.

Democrats are Authoritarians virtually every chance they get. They are un-American.
