The judge was absolutely right: it's ridiculous to think Congress has the power to impeach a president, but not the power to investigate one. We all knew Trump would lose this court battle.

 

What do you really hope to learn from Trump’s financial documents... that’s her been bankrupt a number of times? That he pId little in taxes? Perhaps it’ll show he’ dealt with Russian bankers or businessmen?

This guy made the most simplistic argument in his ruling imaginable. He claims that so long as the Court can see a legislative function(regardless of whether there actually is one or not), the Court is not inclined to question the motives of the legislative branch.

This, while he cites that Congress cannot inquire into anything that is of a non-legislative nature. But if this Court cannot examine that for the record, how will it enforce that requirement on legislative nature? It can't! In his own words, the Court forbade itself from doing so.

In other words, Congress can access anyone's tax records, insofar as they give the most flimsy 'legislative' argument for it, and the Court will not, cannot review it.
