Definitely the money will help .. but it is the weapons supply that is really needed --- we simply don't have it to supply .. Hopefully some of that money goes into increasing production capacity but that will not help for a couple years. I disagree. For it's intended purpose, that is as a close ground support aircraft, it was well designed, well until they found some major cracks in the wings. But in their defense that GAU-8 must put some major strain on everything, and no amount of calculations and simulations could account for all the flight maneuvers while firing.
With the A10 they started with the GAU-8 and built the aircraft around it rather than the gun fitted as an afterthought to an existing aircraft.
But, as you say, it's a bit long in the tooth now as the first production A10 flew in 1975 and anti aircraft weapons have come a long way since then.
